Classic Cop Bullshit

actually only had 1 negative experience with cops out of probably 30, theyve always been pretty respectful even though I used to be a little shit. As a matter of fact my buddy and I were coming home from our local ski hill at like 3 am and he had just gotten a ticket like a week before. The one minute that we werent paying attention to the speed limits he get pulled over for going 20 over. He was flipping shit because it was in a traffic zone AND he had just gotten another ticket, so it would have been expensive as hell. Cop asks for license/registration, asks if we have anything illegal in the car. Then he noticed what we were wearing and our ski's in the back, gave us a "hell yeah you guys coming back from mad river?", we say "we sure are", he then gives us a "shred on" as he walks back to his car and drives away. Never ran either of our id's, didn't check insurance, nothing. Pretty badass if you ask me

Cop sees an out-of-state license plate and suspects that the guy is trafficking drugs. He then makes up a bullshit reason to pull the guy over so that he can have his drug-sniffing dog circle the car. The cop provokes the dog to give a false positive which allows him to search the car based on probable cause. The cop finds no drugs and sends the man on his way.

this guy should have been on a phone with his lawyer as soon as the cop came back with id's and didn't let them go. he should have asked why he was being detained and made sure it was documented before the canine started. and finally he should have insisted on a warrant and continued insisting, very loudly, the entire time the search was going on.

when i first get pulled over i play a rich, educated, responsible kid that has somewhere to be. if the cop comes back with my id and doesn't let us go, I get upset in a condescending kind of "who do you think you are wasting an upstanding citizens time?" and promptly call my lawyer and demand all involved badge numbers.

once cops realize that, best case scenario, they're still going to have to defend themselves in a civil suit regardless of whether they find anything they usually leave you alone.

my fav tho is that rare occasion I get pulled over doing nothing illegal and get to have some fun with the cop.

That said, civil rights crusaders saying things like "SHOULD HAVE CALLED HIS LAWYER AND THREATENED TO SUE" are idiots. The dude knew he had nothing illegal, even if what the police are doing is BS, don't be an asshole - just let them do their thing. It'll seriously be much less of annoyance. If you start getting all high and mighty you're just going to end up wasting a bunch of your own time for no useful reason.

Unless you happen to get off on standing up to authority figures, in which case go nuts, but also get help.

Also dude up there, your "upstanding citizen" thing sounds really dumb, and no cop is stupid enough to think he's going to be facing a civil suit for searching a guy's car. You wouldn't pay the filing fees to even get into court and you'd 100% lose pretty much no matter what.

Even if nothing illegal is in my car I wouldn't let them search. My friend got his laptop smashed by a cop who was searching through his car recklessly.

Also, you never know if your friends may have dropped some weed in your car by accident, or if you own a used car there might be contraband in it from the previous owner. Im not like some crazy civil rights crusader but I just would rather be safe than sorry.
