I just really don't see much of a difference anymore between telemarking and alpine skiing. Tele equipment has evolved with alpine stuff. We now ski big burly plastic boots with bombproof bindings and big fat twin tip skis. Tele skiers can pretty much do anything alpine skiers can do. Not to be cocky but I can honestly say I'm the best big mountain rider at my hill without a doubt and there are tons of people who would back me up on that statment. And to the comment that hoodratz made about me eating it on that 180 at Hood yeah I did but I hadn't skied in 3 months and I wasn't exactly at my peak level for the season. However when I was at Squaw for spring break I did land a 180 over a 50 footer. I loved watching everyones faces as a skied switch the rest of the way down the hill. I think most of you guys commenting on this really don't know what you are talking about becuase there are so few of us out there. I'm the only one doing at my hill and it's 2,500 acres with 15,000-20,000 people on the weekends. I've heard the scene is getting pretty big in Colorado maybe you all need to go down there and check it out. Then your igrrorant asses will see that we deserve to be in the park just as much as you alpine skiers do.

I'm just saying that your opinions are based on ignorance and I think you should actually know what you are talking about before you make stupid statments. I mean jesus one of you didn't even know there were twin tip telemark skis. Are you living in a whole some where. You need to be exposed to the light then you'll realize there is really no difference between my skiing and yours. Oh yeah and telemarkers aren't hippies. That stereotype went out like 15 years ago. I shower at least once a day sometimes twice, I hardly ever eat granola, and I don't even own Berks.

A couple comparisons can be made here....
1. Saying a fellow skier is a hippy because his heel is free is like calling a fellow mountain biker on the trail is a tofu fartin' fairy (thanks blue collar) because he is riding a hardtail. It's both untrue biast.
2. Making fun of someone who is trying to progress their sport out of ignorance is just like snowboarders making fun of skiing. So making fun of tele dudes makes you no more better than the people who rag on your passion to ski.

Thanks skiierman. If people say telemarkers shouldn't be in the park then they should just remember back when skiers weren't even allowed in terrain parks or when you got wierd looks from the snowboarders for being in there. And the fact that I remember those time most of the people on this site are too young to remember when parks were closed to skiers I think gives me more right to be in the park. I've skied the park for 11 seasons now since the begining on my teles.
And yeah there are tons of kids out there on teles killing it.

I wish I had some footage of some good telemarkers in the park but unfortunately I don't. I'd say check out this years tough guy productions film ingocnito but the trailer made it look kind of lame. I did see some of the guys in it filming at Squaw and I still say Lorenzo Worster throws the styliest carve cork 3 I've ever seen. He was doing them over the 70 foot table there and everyone was just blown away. Max Mancini is super smooth on everything. Also I skied with Peter O's friend Andrew who is in the movie and he is really good. He does really nice clean 5s and rodeos. So maybe the actual movie will be good. You can check out the trailer on their website but like I said it doesn't really represent what these guys can do. I'll have some footage in the spring that I will post but obviously that's a while from now. I really don't know what to tell you I guess you'll just have to take my word for it or head down to Colorado where all those guys ski and witness the madness first hand.

It's a damn good thing Tay isn't still around here.
This is a painful argument, we all ski, if you're enjoying it then its all good. If you guys are gonna get all up in arms about how your binding attaches your boot to your ski, you might want to question just why you're skiing in the first place.

Its winter, the birds have all flown south, all but one. One little bird that waited too long. As it flew to catch it's buddies it got icicles on its wings and fell to the ground. The bird then saw a nice looking branch at the top of a nearby tree and it said to a nearby cow, 'I want to reach that top branch but I don’t have then energy to fly up, can you help?' The cow said, 'Here, eat some of my poop it'll fuel you to climb up the tree.' The little bird said, 'Thanks!' and had some of the cow poop. The bird flew up to the first branch of the tree and rested, then the next day flew to the next branch, until finally the bird reached the top branch. Then the farmer came out with a shotgun...
The moral of the story is, bullshit may get you to the top, but it wont keep you there.

I saw the core teaser and i guess ill have to take your word for it. All i saw was terrible music, switch backflips, no style rails, and cork 720's where the guy has his hands wrapped under his legs - i wont take it as any indication of what the sport is like right now since alot can happen in a short period of time.

this is fucking gay, WHO CARES IF ITS HARDER. Its like anti progression, think about it, skiin has been progressing big time in the last 10 years, why would we want to do somthign that takes away about 5 years of the progression of style and tricks jsut because its harder. We could tie our fucking boots, then would that be the next fad. Its alot harder to ski when ur boots are tied togther but that doesnt mean people that do it deserve props for creating a new fad thats supposed to be better then real skiing.

A person isn't defined by what they ride, but how they ride.
However I don't have much intrest in tele, or tele jibing. There isn't any real benifit teleing outside of the backcountry and defintly not any in the park. (unless maybe for over tweaking)
Basicly, 2 types of people do tele jibbing; 1 does it to expierence a diffrent feeling, and something new. The other can't get attention on his normal skis so he does tele jibbing. Very few people are doing it and compare to a smaller pool of talent.
And to everyone who does it simply for the joy, you shouldnt need to try and defend yourself on the web from some kids. It's like the skiers who get all worked about snowboarders dissing skiing.

Okay so apparently the last two posts were done by absolute fucking morons.
D-spin. Nobody throughout this entire thread has said that to paraphrase tele is better becasue it's harder. Trust me I read every post. I don't know where you got that idea but I think maybe you've got some other issues that need to be resolved else where. Like in therapy. There isn't any reression in telemarking. It's progressing just as fast if not faster than alpine skiing it's just a bout a year or two behind as far as what has been done.
Airic your assumtions as to while people telemark in the park are extremely igronant whcih totally voids your point entirely. Most of the people who 'telejib' don't do it for either of the stupid ass reasons you came up with (for attention jesus are you really that dense). Most telemarkers in the park are there because they have always been on tele skis and when park riding came along they migrated there just like alpine skiers. You assume that people who tele are trying to get some greater benefit out of it. Did you ever think that they just did it because it was skiing and skiing is fun.

Well for me it wasn't ever really a choice. I've never skied alpine skis. From the time I was four I was on cross country skis and eventually tele stuff. But for me I still think tele rules in powder. You get lower in the snow so when it's only knee deep for the rest of you it's up to my waist. Also I think tele turns have a more flowing feel to them like surfing. Tele turns are more of a finess(sp) kind of skiing. Unfortunately there are so many people out there that make it look like shit this is probably a bad argument. But with really good telemarkers I think the technique just feels smoother.

I've been skiing since I was a kid (learned in Swizerland). In my mid teens, I switched to snowboarding. About three years ago, I decided to try out telemarking and fell in love with it. It allowed me to blend my alpine and snowboarding skills into one sport. Also, the equipment I have allows me to p-turn and t-turn whenever I want to. When I'm tired, lazy, or just feel like cruising, I'll p-turn. Or, if I feel like ripping the hill at mach-5, I'll p-turn. If I'm feeling 'artsy,' I'll t-turn. The feeling is simply different, IMHO. I can't say I enjoy one more than the other, so if I love them both, why not do something that allows me to choose without having to change equipment?

I believe that telemarking is hard, and i give them credit there. But still, i think it just looks weird in the park. You guys can say what you want, but it looks odd. Personnaly, i'd rather see somebody drag their hands for a sec after landing switch than somebody putting one knee to the ground. And on rails, one ski will pivot up and down and look goofy. Im not hatin on tele skiers, i'm just saying that it looks wierd. And you guys can't butter or nosepress which is skiing's new thing.

^Haha yeah tailpressing and butters those are the things that really define skiing right now. What a joke. Those things will be out faster than the flatspin. And were you saying that ele skiers put their knee down when landing switch. Never seen that before. Most tele skiers are way smoother than alpine skiers when landing switch.
I don't get why everyone sees it as this huge handycap. It really isn't. I can hold my own in the park and after this seaon in Tahoe I'll be able to destroy most of you. I rip big mountain and I'm not affraid to say it. If I can do certain aspects of skiing at an equal or higher level than the majority of people then how am I being handicapped in any way.

Dude don't talk about people personal issues when your the one who seems to have them. I meen who defends what they ski on like you do? I don't know you, but I would suggest spending less time on the internet.
Also, if what people say about you, or what you do, fills you with anxiety, I would take your own advice and see a therapist about it.
It's not healthy to worry about stuff so much. I meen its fun to debate but your quick and excessive responses show that your getting to emotional about it. Its nothing really.
And my response was nothing.
So just relax, and the snow will start falling, and all will be peaceful.

^ The only reason that I have so many posts about this is because I'm the only telemarker here defending it. If I don't do it who will. Should I just let the sport that I have loved for many years be trampled on by a bunch of hooligans. No my friend to do that woud be like abandoning a friend in his time of need. I will defend telemarking til the day I die.
Ohh crap sorry got a little dramatic there. Really I'm not taking this very seriously. I know whose opinions I respect and most of the people on this site dont know what they are talking about so I could really give a shit what they have to say on the topic.

i personally do both and i like tele skiing better then alpine but i only use mine for back country skiing, my tele skis have never seen a resort, ice or crud. they've only been in powder so maybe thats why i like it better but its way smoother once you can get used to it and a lot more fun(more faceshots!). i dont know why anybody has a problem with them, just let them jib. so what if you think it looks funny, i bet i would think you look funny being posers and all. power to the telemarkers
