JJs or S7s?

I domoed s7s the other day and I had mixed feeling they were really nice doing short turns in pow and felt effortless in the deep, on hard pack you really had to work the carve, at speed even in deep snow they felt pretty unstable, they could handle crud well either they didn't exactly bust through it. imho they seem like a good first time powder ski, but if your looking to charge huck etc etc I would go JJ. You might also want to check out the ON3P Caylor there's a review on my blog, but in short they are insanely good in powder they can be playful when you want and charge when you need, they are the most versatile pow stick all over the mountain that I've ever ridden, chundering through crud, grip on the ice and carve better than my prophet 100s.

^ I don't agree. I skied both a few times before buying S7s. The main differences are that the JJ has a wider tail and the S7 is more of a paintail, the JJ is way softer at the tip and tail than underfoot and the S7 is a more even flex throughout. The JJ felt a lot more jibby which I liked but the tips got knocked around a lot more in choppy snow. JJs felt nicer on hardpack to me, but some peopel say the opposite. If you're doing any switch, get the JJ for sure. If the 195 JJ had been available when I was buying I would have got it for sure. I say go for the JJ in a long length (5-10cm over head-height).

My vote is for nordica patrons. I ski the helldorado which is just a stiffer version of the patron. The softer patrons would be killer if you don't really charge. They would float great and still be kind of surfy but will be better on groomers.

patron is a great ski, but for the with OP is talking about the radict would be more comparable, also a great ski, super playful!

I dont know the patron seems like an amalgamation of the jj and s7 with a longer radius.

no youre totally right got the patron and soul rider waist mixed up, yeah patron is another good bet.

my vote is also for the patron or helldorado. had the patrons all this season and have been on the helldorados for the past few weeks now and they are both awesome skis. patron if you are looking for something really playful, helldorado if you want something a bit beefier. although i will say still a playful ski, just takes a bit more effort. ill also throw in the radict as well if you want something fatter (127 footprint) stiffer than patron but still a wicked fun ski and does very well on the harder snow.

i dont know if you would do any hiking or backcountry with either of these but if so go with the jj's because the s7s are so damn heavy.

If you want to ski powder in a traditional manner, but make it very, very easy, go for S7's. They make great turn shapes in all sorts of fresh snow, whether that be dense, light, cruddy, choppy, whatever. They excel at short turns, but can hold up to fast, big turns.

If you'd rather jump cliffs, land backwards, ski fast and aggressively, go for the JJ. Having more sidecut in the tail adds some stability, as well as having a lower tip and tail reduces bounce in the ski. Plus, non-pintail allows for switch landings.

JJ is more capable of skiing switch, the S7 has a pintail meant to sink in powder. I thought both skis were amazing but went with the JJ because I have a secret mancrush on JP Auclair. Super happy with my decision. I could be wrong but I remember reading that the JJs are lighter since they have the 50/50 cap wall construction. With a ski that big weight matters.

I love my JJs, all my friends have other skis like new lifes, S7s, rocker 2s, obsethed and czars and i have tried all of them i still find that none of them match up to the JJs, just my opinion

Rocker2 115 is better in deep pow

JJ is much more versitile all over the mtn

both are super playful..  both skis ridden monday in 8-12 inches of pow, both with salomon demo binders

ARMADA JJS. you cant ski switch on the s7 and it cant handle hardpack. jj rails everything on the mountain its a much bettter choice than the s7

What about lib techs new FFF's?? Anyone tried them yet? Similar design to the jj and s7.

To be honest, the design of both the jj and the s7 was revolutionary when they came out but not is completely outdated. The s7 had a disproportionally wide tip, a very short tip rocker with a very high degree of splay, and slight tail rocker with a pintail design. The combination makes them extremely maneuverable at slow speeds in consistent soft snow, but they have a very reachable speed limit and get bounced around taking any kind of speed into choppy snow. They're a great ski for an intermediate skier looking to transition from traditional cambered skis to a wider pow oriented ski without losing a traditional feel, but they aren't high performance by any means. They're also very directional, so switch skiing is a no go. The jjs on the other hand, are very bidirectional, but have an extreme amount of taper in relation to it's dimensions, resulting in a rediculously small turning radius. A 'normal' radius is in the mid 20s. Long is in the 30s. Short is somewhere in the mid to late teens. JJs have around a 12 or 14 m sidecut depending on the size, so you're looking at a ski that will be extremely maneuverable and turny in tight conditions and ant slow speeds, but without any kind of stability at speed. Obviously tree are people who can ski fast on jjs or s7s, but that's saying more about them than the skis; neither are very capable charging skis. The instability of jjs is accentuated by the soft flex of their shovel and their extreme lightness, which makes speedy crud skiing a pain. As light, jibby, bidirectional freestyle pow skis go, jjs are near the top, but what they gain in playfulness they lose in stability and performance. Just ask yourself what you want in your pow ski, and if that's a maneuverable, slow speed, semi versatile pow stick, by all means go jj or s7. Then all you need to decide on is the importance of bidirectionality.

I completely agree with this. I was on old beat up Super 7s last year which I liked in trees but hated in wide open powder. I've had a couple of good days on my Automatics this winter and they are so much better hauling ass in open spaces and almost as manoeuvrable in trees. They don't ski like they have a 20m radius, more like 25-30m.

Skis with a longer, more gradual tip rocker and less tail rocker are what to look for. Think Automatic, Billygoat, Squad 7, Bibby Pro.

I demoed some jjs and hated them. The short turning radius was too short and felt awkward. They also felt chattery and squirrelly. I don't see how the reviews mark them so high

I've never skied JJs but I own some Super 7's in 195cm so I'll add my little bit.
