Camera Custom PictureStyles

Couldn't find a thread on this. I am using Cinestyle which is

sharpness = 0
contrast = -4
saturation = -2
color tone = 0

Then applying the s curve in post. However I am not finding my sharpness and clarity of the picture is that clear? What are the settings you are using? And if you could post an edit with those settings?

Not a very good example though, It was shot mostly with a fisheye which is pathetic in terms of comparing IQ, also there is some terrible blow-out with the sky. I Hope it helps in some way though... I honestly love grading it, there is a lot of flexibility.

I had the sharpness halfway however (for what ever reason, at 4 I think) and I don't think it looks very good. People say that the t2i's sharpening is horrible.

Do you think it should be sharper? Or what would you do with the sharpness?

well the idea with cinestyle is that you reduce the sharpening as much as possible.

I thought, "Well I want my images to not only have a higher dynamic range, but have good sharpness, so Im going to increase the sharpness"

That video was shot with the altered sharpness and I felt like it did not do much for the image quality, so I guess it would be better off without it (sharpness at 0).

Honestly, the picture style stuff it painful to get right. One day Im just going to sit down and compare super enlarged frames of different pic styles and settings until I find something that I'm happy with.

My biggest gripe about cinestyle is that the picture profile generates a lot of noise; rumor has it that they're making a cinestyle v2.0 which will feature less DR but less noise.

I usually just tweak the picture profile on my camera while in the parking lot or while riders roll up. Suits me fine

the whole point of un-sharpening your picture on a dslr is to avoid aliasing on brick buildings or structures or even trees. things with lots of little detail that the camera will try to make sharp, which will just end up giving you some funky footage in some cases. i used cinestyle for this piece... i shot this at 720p obviously but i wasn't really disappointed with the sharpness (minus the soft focus that was all my fault). keep in mind this was just "B" or even "C-Roll" footage i just slapped together for the lawls. but still used cinestyle..

I have cinestyle, crooked path (fav) and a custom neutral I did in camera. Cinestyle is good for a bunch of stuff when you need to heavily grade, but i try to get the look I want in camera. Then just do minor tweaks in post.
