Sharpening edges for park

FIRST OFF IDC if this is a repost....but I am going to Colorado next week and going to woodward but am also riding all mountain... i have never sharpened my edges would that be a good idea, or would i catch on rails and such?

just brush them with a brass or nylon brush if u have rust on the bases. actually you can just ski a day on them and the rust comes off, happened with my brothers skis anyway.

It does get the icy out here. Yeah it isnt all the time. But I don't care what you say, if there is a run that is solid enough where I can't break it with my poles. That is icy. Some runs out here are completely covered in shadows and are sheets of ice all day, even after the groomers hit it. It just gets churned up to freeze back up how it was spit out. Turns into that crusty shit on top of an ice skating rink. Which is fucking dangerous if you fall. Especially on longer, gnarlier runs. Take a chill pill about your ice.

I am sorry that the one thing you had that was better(?) than the west has been taken away from you. When, water melts and refreezes, it creates ice. this phenomenon isnt exclusive to the estern US.

Take heart in the fact that your gapers tend to be more gaperiffic than the gapers we get out west. you still have that at least.

Would it work if you sharpen the tip and tail areas but not under foot?

how often do you slide a rail on the tip or tail of your ski?

before i go away (only like couple weeks a year) sharpen the tips and tails but dull underfoot, probably gona get waves of hate but doesn't stick on rails but lets you have control on ice and out of the park

At copper this year one run was so icy for 3 days straight I nearly died, came flying down a run, little did I know that right over the edge of a roller was pure sheets of ice, had no control of my skis, I legit was unable to turn or anything, I slid sideways about 500 feet without slowing down until I hit a small patch of powder and finally stopped. scary shit

oh YES great idea let's argue over which coast has the shittiest conditions.

OP as long as your skis aren't like 5 years old and never been sharpened, and you still have your edges intact, you should be fine. and as long as you don't decide to race with them.

i skied on the east coast for 18 years and yes ice is much for prevalent but the ice can be just as bad out west sometimes

If it's blue and shiny, it's ice. If it's white, then at some point it was snow, now it's just really really hardpacked snow. Unless it's been through a few thaw-freezes, then it's possibly ice.

Turoa represent. If you can survive Ruapehu on a crisp spring morning, you can ski anything icey.

Nothing better than that big sheet of bulletproof ice at the bottom of Big Bowl with the little lumpy bits sticking out...
