I'm getting back into snowboarding (NO HATE PLEASE), and im looking to buy some of my own gear.
i was just hoping that i could get some good advice on gear e.g. snowboards, bindings and boots

which ones are the best, which ones are for what discipline (freestyle, recreational, big mountain)

I'm 5,10/11ft 87kg, im looking for a good all round board, boots and bindings that can do powder but can also do rounds in the park i.e pretty flexible, for a reasonable price (ideally under 300 pounds)

My snowboard buddies swear by the lib tech boards and the Nike boots. Now I'm no fan of lib tech skis. I demoed a pair and nearly killed myself on a rail but these two guys are both pretty decent and won't ride anything else. They're both all round all mountainy types. Hope that helps.

My Forum board is fucking bombproof. Seriously, I don't think it will ever die. Boots are boots...I've had Vans, Burton, ThirtyTwo...never noticed a difference between them.

got ride boots, lib tech board, lib tech is cambered with magne traction, holds quite a decent edge and is pretty stiff. ride boots are unbelievably comfortable. also mushy as hell.

i think lib tech boards are just too expensive for my student life style. but thanks, i have been looking at some dc burton and rome and forum boards, what do you think, i havent narrowed it down yet.

32 Boots are by far the most comfortable. Heat moldable liners too.
Look into Capita and Union for all-mountain/park boards and bindings. Yes. snowboards and their Camrock technology is on point too.

I love my 32 boots. You should go to a shop and try boots on though. I almost bought some boots online, decided to go try them on in store and they were really uncomfortable.

As for bindings, my burton cartels are amazing. If possible, try and get a toe strap like this one or similar:

I've had the toe strap that is more like a cup and they always fall off.

I also have a lib tech trs board with magna traction. Honestly, I don't really notice any more grip than my other boards. The construction on the lib tech is bomber though and its nice and stiff, they do make softer boards as well.

my roommate wears salomon boots and says he likes em alot. he loves his 390 bindings too, but im pretty sure their expensive. i'd look into union for bindings.

other roommate just got in the new rome hammerhead board. looks gnarly and they only made 50 of em.

Look at a Capita man. Like that guy said, unions are bombproof too and that would make a good setup. Stepchild is sweet too, small core company.

Yeah dude I don't know cause I haven't tried em on, so try em on, but my buddies swear there's a big difference with the Nike boots. One friend got em and praised em then my other friend got em based on that and praises em too. Funny though. The one guy has come out on skis a few times with me. He still sucks but he's diggin it.

Yea man I just ordered a stepchild, so stoked. Bunch of my friends have them and love them.
Also, I don't think Nikes are exceptionally better to be honest. My friend has had Romes,Nikes,Celsius and he is going to be getting 32s soon. He liked the Nikes, but they're expensive too.

All of my buddies board, none of them ski. They've all ridden 80+days a year since 05' so they know whats up.

Board: K2 WWW, Ride DH
Bindings: Burton Cartels, spend the extra, they'll last and r worth it. Ride is pretty good too. But they prefer cartels.
Boots: anything

Steptchild and Capita have horrible quality
DC is OK, but some quality issues as well (buddy of mine rides for them)
Libtech and Arbor are Denver, CO weekend warrior boards. Not many good riders use them. They're probably great for 90% all mtn, but I don't remember the last time I saw a guy tearing up the park on either of those brands (TRice doesn't count)

I had the chance to demo my friend's Lib Tech Skate Banana, and was pretty impressed, it seem to be pretty versatile in all conditions. For your size, I think 157-162 is probably the size range you want. The standard width boards are fine up to a size 10-11.

Boots- I have 32s. Warm, with Intuition liners (I think), and generally on the soft side. Burton is also pretty good, the Ion is a good high end boot.

To save money, look at last season's stuff. This season's stuff is probably going on sale now, you can probably get a good deal, and also your preferred size / colorway.

If you don't recommend Union bindings you don't know whats up! Their bindings are so solid and still lightweight with a lifetime guarantee. Tons of good boards out there. Stepchild is tight, not horrible quality.

for a pure jib/park deck don't get a lib tech. i use my skate banana all around the hill and it's sweet, but for jibbing i don't think they are flexible enough. maybe mine is too long for me, maybe i'm too weak, because i've seen people rip rails on them, idk. for jumps it's dope tho. look into capita, they make awesome boards that can ride a wider range of terrain. indoor survival or midlife sounds like what you need
check that indoor sweet ass base, it's the 2011 indoor so you can find it for cheap

for boots, it doesn't matter which company, just go to a shop and find a pair with some kind of speed lacing that really conforms to your feet, make sure you are comfortable with the stiffness. at first it should be a bit stiffer than you think how stiff it should be.

people usually say burton cartels are the best all around bindings, that's so not true. i find the highback on them too limiting, they are too long and you can't straighten your legs without the board wanting to get on heel edge. unless you ride hardcore as fuck i wouldn't recommend them. unions are good, you can adjust the highback on the forces to feel like as if they are not there, i really like that. you are on a budget so try to find union datas. they aren't the cheapest bindings new but union stopped making them and they ones you can find are most likely used, probably just over $100. they are like padded forces, fucking comfortable. there is a rasta colorway that's really sweet:

if you want to build your own bindings, do some research and see which part from which binding fits your needs and put them together. most people that do this use just union parts but you can use anything as long as they are compatible. here's a whole thread on it
the first picture on that page is a toestrap ride makes, i think they sell them independently. people are saying those grip the best. not that toestraps are important. you can even ride without them

for my forces, i made cant wedges to make the footbeds slanted inwards. having canted footbeds makes your stance more natural, but reduces your ability to pop. nice way to convert your setup into an all conditions cruiser, when you are not feeling like being in the park.

but seriously thanks for all the info, although there are a lot of mixed views on boards here. im still gonna have to think about it and read through the comments above and so on but as boots go, it seems the best way to do it is to go and find a boot which is comfortable along with bindings? . but THANK YOU.

DC is my vote for boots. I've had several pair, with the BOA system - top notch. Only boots I will buy. My brothers both have DCs as well...I believe the model is called the JUDGE, or whatever is the top of the line...great for park or freeride. Comfy, ultra light, powerful, durable, great fits.

As for boards and Bindings, I've been snowboarding for way too long, and the only thing I trust my life on is Burton boards and Burton bindings. There's a reason they're the biggest and the best, and they stand by their products 100%. If you have any issues, they replace the product. Between my brothers and I, we have, all Burton:

Malolo, Un Inc, Rippey, Ross Powers pro model, Jussi pro model, Supermodel, Shaun White Pro model

C60 or Cartel/Mission bindings on all

Hahaha you know nothing. Burton makes an awesome product. Just because a bunch of little skier kids on Newschoolers hate them (clearly yourself included...way to jump on the bandwagon!) doesn't make their product any worse.

Burton makes excellent boards and bindings, but they're not my choice for my hardwoods. I do rock their clothing, though, which I've found to be quite functional and durable. I've used their boots before, although I'm using 32s right now.

I generally don't really pay attention to 'core' or not, if a smaller board company puts out quality products, I'll be happy to demo them and then make a decision about whether they get my $$$.

I am definitely entitled to my own opinion. I would way rather put money into a smaller company who makes a great product just the same as Burton. Also, not a single person on newschoolers has had any affect on whether I like Burton or not. I started snowboarding this year but my friends have been riding forever and I know for a fact that Burton boards and bindings are not the best.
