I am taking a business com course as an engineering credit right now. Business com consists solely of: spelling, punctuation, and grammar. (plus formatting for emails memos and resumes)

College isn't necessary. Most people are wasting their money. Other than being able to say they went to college they've acquired little to no job skills and racked up a huge debt.


Most people go to college because you're supposed to go to college. Also the people that go for the social exploration. College these days is a joke.

Before I make an argument, let me say.....I thought cc was for losers/lowlifes/whatever you want to call it....so I turned down offers to play basketball at cc's for a 4 year school where i don't play basketball......

I paid 18k a year for in state tuition and room and board for a state school, I was directly admitted into the school of business, a great school within my school, and I'm in my last year now living off campus so I pay less than that 18k....

A good deal of students in my classes transferred in from CC. They are honestly the better students. Why? They got 3.8's-4.0 at CC, worked hard, most did it in less than 2 years, and then transferred in. They tend to have better attendance and pay more attention in class than those that have been in my classes since my freshmen year. Why? Maybe because they worked harder to get here? I don't know, but they are better students.

And they paid 2-3k a year for a max of 2 years, chump change

This is what I did, and I have no regrets. Tuition has cost me no more than $5k per quarter, and I can transfer into a four-year university as a junior.

The first two years of college are going to be bunk classes with overpaid high school teachers who do nothing but read powerpoint presentations. You can choose to pay $12k+ per quarter at a four year university or $5k or less at a community college. Here's a dirty little secret: they're essentially the same courses. And often times with the same teachers (a majority of my teachers also teach the same exact classes at WWU).

The downside is that with community college you miss out on the "college experience." No fancy campus and facilities, no dorms, et cetera. And true, my classmates are mostly trailer park moms and retired old people, with transfer degree students peppered about. But who cares; if you want to pay money to make friends, join a country club.

this is the route i went, except for I did one year of CC. My grades in high school were never great, but once I got to CC i started to understand the benefits of learning and being engaged in the classroom. I also found a few subjects that I am really interested in, and actually enjoy studying. Due to this combo, I got a 3.8 at the CC. I am now at a 4 year in state university; my grades are still great, and I am still motivated in the classroom. I know that if I wouldn't have gone to CC for that first year, I would have gone to some lowly party school (Central Michigan University) like all my friends, would have done shitty in my freshman year classes because i wouldn't have found my focus, and I would probably be back at CC this year due to the fact that I probably would have failed out of CMU my freshman year. This is pure speculation, but all in all, I am very happy that I went to CC before the four year university.


Also, "Men, I can understand if they want to go to school longer to get a better education to work on stuff they like to do." hahahahaha that is a great

Exactly my point!

I went right from high school to a 4 year school, partied a lot freshmen year, and my grades sucked. I pulled them up a little the second year, but now, in my third and final year (yea i'm graduating early) I'm really pulling them up and taking college seriously. I'll be right around the cum laude mark (honors) so hopefully I'm on the high side haha, it's going to be real close, if I get a 4.0 this semester I'll have a 3.29 and the lowest I can get to get a 3.25 is like a 3.6 or something like that......I'm studying 7 days a week this semester haha

I know if I went to cc that I would have done better, transferred in and had higher grades and would not be in this last minute pull up my grades for honors shit

I can't stress this enough, it's cheaper, and just like you said, the first year or two at a 4 year and 2 year school are the exact same, basic gen eds taught by shitty professors. And I've had some high school teachers that have taught at CC, and some college professors at my 4 year school that have taught at CC......For gen eds it really doesn't matter

A friend of mine in high school had almost failing grades in high school, parents talked him into going to CC, he got a 4.0. Didn't graduate, but transferred all his credits to a 4 year school that has a really good pre-med program. He's graduating this semester with a 4 year degree from that school with around a 3.8-3.9 (depending on this semester) and his degree is from the 4 year school, not the CC (and it's not in pre-med it's in bio or something I don't know)

Now he's applying to Med School's/getting in Med School's

Community College to Med School, and he saved probably 30k by doing it that way too

keep in mind that G.P.A.'s don't transfer from a CC to a four year university, only the credits do. Good luck with getting your honors recognition! just grind it out

Yea I know, but I know I would have done better once I came to a 4 year if I started at CC

And thanks! I'm putting in like 6-7 hours a day studying outside of class 7 days a week for this, gave up any sort of partying activities for the semester and I really hope I get it!

I agree. The only issue is that employers like to hire those with a college degree. Also, it's an entirely different story for those going into engineering, medicine, etc. Good luck getting into med school with your high school diploma...
