Replying to major Mac powerbook problem, HELP!!!

my soundcard on my powerbook is going insane. sometimes when i wake it from sleep it wont turn on. and recently, its started to sound like a skipping cd, now whenever i wake it from sleep it never turns on, it needs to be on for a while before the soundcard works again. then sometimes itll just fade and die. already tried talking to apple. i had no way to buy the apple care plan, so i dont have any more phone time. but i still have 8 mo. to send it back. but, theres a major problem w/ this: i cant afford to not have my comp while im at school, and theres no approved apple places within 30 min. from my school, and i have no car. anyone else have this problem? please help me.
