Bill Maher has done a ton of work to promote free thinking and sensible thought. He is uncompromising in his faith in science, and lack of faith in thousand year old stories worshipped by many worldwide which causes destruction every year.

I'd say that he's not an idiot, he's pretty funny, and people watch his TV show, so people can make money by selling advertisements. He doesn't pretend to be the one that drives the change, he's a comedian, it's his job to take potshots at the world, and then move on.

Right now, you're bitching about how he bitches about having a tv show, but you're not even slightly funny, or entertaining, nor are you saying anything close to productive.

When it comes down to it, you're the one who's doing nothing.

^ this, definitely not an idiot. He's an EXTREMELY educated person, and also a comedian. He walks the edge of being an asshole and serious political commentator. What makes him great is he just says what he thinks, and is extremely honest, but thats also why people hate him.

Most of those jokes went way over my head regarding the politicians I didn't know. Still, I can understand the comments about him being douchey and whatnot and how it's just the same thing as republicans do, just reversed. But it was very refined, a good format. That whole Cain convo was way overdrawn though and I didn't see the point.

RIP Hitchens, a true intellectual beast.

I can't stand him. He'll talk shit all day long about people, but as soon as someone turns it back on him, he turns into a little bitch. He absolutely can't take ANY criticism. He'll have someone on his show that has differing viewpoints, but any time that person tries to say something, Bill will interrupt with some smartass comment and wont' let them finish. Fuck that guy.

Hmmm, I actually think his panels and discussions he has are really good. He always has people of differing viewpoints with either a majority of conservatives or liberals on his panel (2 on 1) and everyone goes on his show from Grover Norquist to President Jimmy Carter.

He can take a lot of criticism, people do it all the time, and in all the time of watching his show the only time he unfairly interrupts someone is if they need to move on to a new topic.

He is definitely outrageous and can same some pretty sick (yet hilarious) shit, but he's a comedian. He doesn't present himself as an objective reporter of world history and events. Thats why he gets experts to come on his show and debate.

whenever I watch this guy, he just irks me. He has that smug look, like 'oh, i'm a freethinking liberal (nothing wrong with that) jackass who is better than you. I can make fun of whoever I want because I'm never wrong' that guy has his head up his ass. The only time I liked him is when he owned Brian Griffin, but that was just set up... so... yeah

See, that's where I somewhat agree with you.

He's a comedian. And a crappy one at that. But he tries to pull off being some sort of legitimate news source. He's just another Jay Leno or John Stewart, but is an arrogant prick. If people saw him as just an arrogant extreme left wing comedian, I would actually probably have less of a problem with him.
