VOTE: Edits in ski gabber or not?

I vote to ban edits from ski gabber, and place pressure on us to make better ways to see new stuff that is out.

Lets be honest. Pushing uploads is all about ad revenue.

If were going to remove videos from ski grabber then you guys need to update the video commenting system. The current system doesn't allow for any type of effective discussion to take place. Allow people to reply to others comments and maybe add a up/down voting system.

All I see from that is clutter, clutter, clutter...

NS is one of the few forums/websites where most things are very streamlined and uncluttered, I for one wouldn't want that taken away. You know how you can discuss in videos?

Type "NSmembername": I agree/diasgree blah blah.

i agree on that point, however you don't know if someone has rebutted your argument or agreed or answered your question unless you find the video yourself again. we need something like "my videos" or something along those lines. i feel it would increase video comments tenfold.

but is it more important to have unique views or repeat views. People would go to the page but not even watch the video and they would just check what was said in the thread. At this point Im not sure if thats good or bad

If you mean like a notification system, I've understood there's something like that in the development process, or at least should be, it would seem crucial. I think it would be great too.

how does that add clutter? It adds organization to a system that is currently just single line comments like "sick", "that was dope", "what jacket is that?", "what song is that?". The current system doesn't allow people to answer these questions effectively.

Reading through all the comments to see if anyone responded to your comment is not effective.


and btw, removing videos from the SG is only going to hurt ns's profitability. If a someone post a video on another ski site and then it's embedded in an NS forum which do you think ranks higher on the search engine? 90% of the time its going to be the NS thread. Restricting content is never good for a site. NS members are really good at taking content from other sites and adding to to NS. This is a trait that NS does not want to lose

I'm guessing the most limiting factor before has been the fact that no one really uploaded to NS, or if they did, it was the last place to do so. Before that, they might have already posted the edits to SG linked from another site or just upload the embed in the NS Video section.

Now that there's a really flexible and good system in place, we should just diverge from that for a a while. As a test, at least, and Bishop could give us straight numbers what happened to SG views vs. Video section views if they would say it's a no-go to post vids in SG.

Plus I don't think there are that many skiing sites around that wouldn't catch wind of what's happening on NS, it's not vice versa (no offense to Downdays).

I agree that edits shouldn't be in sg, but if that is done then the video section needs some reformatting. I think the reason that people post in sg is because of the easiness to get replies. If the comments in the video section had features like quoteing and tip rated comments then people would use it way more. Sort of like how youtubes comment section is. Also, mobile ns video section would be dope.

This, I don't get why every gets so angry about vids in ski gabber. The only reason they are shitty at the moment is because it always ends up with people fighting about whether they should be there or not. Just don't post and if the video is no good, it will be off the front page in no time.

I dont get it. If you want to watch edits why wouldnt you go to the video section? Why surf forums until you find an edit that you like when you could find one with the new guide or something in under 30 seconds flat. And if the reason you like edits in SG is because then you can find some of the best edits out there, google "newschoolers.com best edits". or play around with that. Guaranty you'll find better edits. (first thing was a sammy carlson bonus edit which would NOT of been posted in SG and it is really really good

you guys are missing the concept. people hardly even check the video section anymore. video views are 10 times lower now than a few years ago. do you want to tell me how that happens when the number of members on the site has been exponentially increasing? it sucks for people like me who make small edits just to fool around really but would like some feedback and people to see it, yet the only videos being viewed are the ones posted in ski gabber.

That was before embedding and its relative ease (which people still manage to fuck up) and when NS had like 10MB limit for videos, you had to host them from somewhere else and share it on the forums.

this is the real reason why we no longer allow edits to be promoted through SG ....

just make a rule you can't post your own edit for purpose of exposure. Let people keep posting the bangers for discussion but kick anything that sucks and is posted to get more views. Problem solved

That is subjective though. A simple ban would be easy to enforce and people would be unable to argue about it.

See there, you were making progress but just lost it all because honestly most of the videos posted in SG are not self-promotion, but rather cool edits that people are excited about and want to discuss them. Ban them to them if you will, but focusing on self-promotion as a reason is just unfounded.

i'm not entirely sure what point you're trying to make (sorry, english isn't my first language), But in my opinion this is a pretty well founded reason...

Isn't the point of banning ski-edits from skigabber to bring more viewers to the video-section and give honest people who simply post their video in the video section the same chances and exposure as some egomaniac who's plugging his own edit in skigabber ?

let's be honest, most edits that get posted on SG simply turn out in basically what is a comment list that could just as well be found/posted in the video section ...

Only a few are posted to really spark a discussion or ask a question, and those should still remain imho...
The threads that turn out as one huge comment list like "sick edit bro"'doopee!!' "i love it!" etc.... those should be removed imho, those edits belong in the video section without a doubt ...

feel free to make a better suggestion concerning regulation of edits in the forums, but i don't think that completely banning them is the way forward....
