I am pro choice. Whether or not Abortion is right is all dependent on the situation. Yes, adoption is an option but more often than not the emotional trauma of adoption is tumultuous in comparison to that which comes from terminating a barely started pregnancy. As well, it should be the choice of the woman whether or not she wants the child, because it begins life in HER body. This is important especially in teenager a because not only is the physical strain going to be on the mother but after the baby is born it he primary caregiver will most like be its mother. Also, a woman who is raped cannot be expected to keep the baby under any circumstances and those who fail to realize that are total fuckheads. In my opinion, as long as it is not used as a form of birth control , terminating a half term or under pregnancy can be the most ideal thing to do in an unplanned pregnancy. It should always remain an option to women, because if it is not there still will be abortions going on , but the safety and health of the woman will be put at high levels of risk due to the fact th/at in that case "illegal abortions" are not monitored.

hmm
im on the fence on this touchy subject. on one hand your responsible and its your fault for getting pregnant. but on the other hand you might have been raped or something and in that case you have no control over whether you get pregnant or not.

i support abortion until the baby reaches the cute stage around 4 months old. everything before that doesnt have a higher level of consciousness than a puppy.

but then again, i dont hold mine, or anyones life in high regard.

A fetus has no self-sustaining processes. Without the mother, it would not exist. It's not "alive" until it pops out of mom's vag and takes a breath.

I think you meant, "If you're too fucking stupid to use a condom or other method of birth control, don't be surprised when that coke whore you banged last weekend calls you and tells you she's pregnant...and you also have AIDS."

The fact is that an early developing fetus has hardly any of the characteristics of a human. In fact fetal development is a process that displays thousands of unused evolutionary traits. When a fetus is nearly developed, then there should be controversy, but a month old fetus is resembles a pig more than a human (both physically and mentally). I can understand the concern over aborting fetuses; I have extremely religious family members. However, if you are a rational and same person, and understand the stages of fetal development (a blastula of 8 cells forming a human of millions of cells), abortion when done correctly is no different than killing a pig, cow, chicken, turkey, ant, or spider.

I have also heard the "fetuses are potential people" argument. If it were evil to abort any potential humans, then men would have some serious psychiatric problems. Every sperm cell is a potential human: each one would produce a unique individual, but men kill millions of sperm ever month (or week....day.....or hourly if you have the balls). In this sense the argument fails.

It all comes down to tradition and deeply held religious beliefs. If you don't feel comfortable with aborting your baby, then don't.

There is a ton of philosophy involved in abortion. no person with knowledge of biology would say that eight cells are intelligent. But then when does a clump of cells become intelligent? Logically it is some time between blastula and birth.......

Would you agree that the fetus is living off of the mother and her nutrients? I personally am against abortion but I believe that people should be able to do whatever they choose. I am not the only one, so for hypocrisy's sake, you are intolerant. Some people believe that since the fetus is absorbing nutrients through blood that it is living. Others believe it is not living until it pops out the vagina, which is cool. I would agree that pro lifers are fucked but get rid of the tunnel vision.

this is 100% my take. abortion is rad. also, theres the whole "its a woman's body, she should have the ultimate say" thing. sure, im against murder, and hell, i will even give pro lifers the "fact" that life starts at conception. but a fetus is not conscious. it might be living, but not really alive yet, if that makes sense (it doesnt). but frankly, as a dude, it is not my issue. plain and simple.

I'm not in favor of criminalizing abortion. I'm in favor of reducing the number of abortions through a number of means. I bet if we took all of these steps and made them our primary goal, we could reduce abortion instances by 25-50%.

*increase accessibility of adoption
*increase sex education
*increase availability of contraception/birth control
*increase aid and education for new parents
*increase counseling services for new parents
*increase availability of preventative medicine, especially for women

However, I'm not anti-abortion. Until such a time as these measures are each "ticked off the list" and carried to capacity, abortion should stay totally legal and freely-available. And even then it should really stay legal and freely-available. At least within the first trimester and potentially the second. But I'm partial to free access within the first trimester. Ninety days is more than enough time to make a values judgment and a decision. Beyond that, issues move more into the realm of abortion-due-to-disorder, which I believe should be eliminated.

Beyond that, it the responsibility of both the mother and the father to make the difficult, painful, emotionally-immobilizing decision.

You know if you get raped, there are multiple things you can do to prevent/eliminate the pregnancy prior to letting things get so far along that you'd need an abortion.

no. plan b is to prevent the sperm and egg from ever uniting. it doesn't terminate an egg that's already been fertilized.  Plan B isn't an abortion by anyone's definition if they're educated on what it does-- however some that believe in fate believe that it is playing God-- because it could interfere and prevent a pregnancy that was "meant to happen"-- or whatever.
