1) Not irrelevant. Let's compare the amount of time, energy, resources, etc that go into the development from oocyte to baby...Man=sperm and then done, female=the egg obvi, then 9 months of complete alteration of hormone levels, devoting her energy and nutrition and oxygen and such to the fetus, huge physical changes, etc. The commitment is phenomenally greater for a woman then a man to make a baby. Men don't get pregnant, therefore I don't think that men should control in a political manner what women do when their pregnant. However....I mean this on a government/general level, and I do acknowledge that a husband/boyfriend can have a say in the matter on a personal level.
2) It is definitely a religious issue in part, as many people who are pro life are because of their religious beliefs. Not everyone, but definitely many of them. Bringing religious beliefs into a political issue is exactly what we shouldn't do if we truly believe in the separation of church and state (though there seems to be a lot of inappropriate blending of the two in other issues these days anyway, abortion is just one of many such cases).
3)I think that I'll be a great and loving mother actually, but thanks anyway. But I'll be a mother when I'm good and ready and can responsibly raise a child through and past it's parasitic stage. Sorry you don't like my blunt, perhaps even crude, but true statement.
4)So do you think it should be illegal or not? Your opinion seems vague based on your statement.

6)No I am not. Sorry I didn't include that...getting pregnant can be equally irresponsible.
Finally..yes, there are gray areas to the issue. But I, like everyone else who has commented, have given my opinion. However I'm happy to read other people's opinions, and I like seeing other people's insights one way or another.

I respect that-if it wasn't obvious I'm pro choice, and those with intelligent reasons behind their beliefs, regardless of what side they're on (and yes, I think there are people who just argue or jump on a bandwagon on both sides of the issue) I can at least understand even if I don't believe in the same thing. but to caligirl, when you said that a man (other than husband/BF) shouldn't have a say in a political matter because they dont get pregnant and dont have to go through the physical efforts of being pregnant, logically your also saying that any other woman that hasn't been pregnant also doesn't get a say in the matter... just thought id point that out...

I guess what peeves me is the idea of even the possibility of making abortion illegal completely- I just feel like in the end it should be purely a personal choice for a woman or a couple, and not a political one. For the most part, it's going to be a pregnant woman making that choice to keep it or abort it, and, like I commented before, if a woman wants to have an abortion then she should have that right too, especially over forcing her to bring an unwanted child into the world that she might not be able to properly care for (this could be emotionally, or financially, etc. I feel that that is an injustice to the child and the mother), or driving someone to risk a "backyard" abortion.

Depends on the situation... not gunna lie, I wouldn't wanna have a baby bump in college... I mean I understand to an extent where pro life people are coming from, but a 13 year old girl who got raped has to have a kid? That's messed up... Ya, I'm pro choice. It's not other people's decision to make. It should be up to the individual and her situation.

how are the two even comparable? you're meeting a valid perspective with idiocy. no you can't club people because you feel like it, that would be assault and battery. if you want to take a club and film yourself swinging it around like star wars kid, go right ahead. a woman isn't hurting anybody by having a choice as to whether or not she wants to abort a pregnancy.

Also, I do think that if you fuck up and get pregnant on your own consent, You should have to deal with the consequences and not run from them by getting one. I kind of see it as a cowardice thing.

It has arms, legs, a head, a developing brain, and all the same organs as us. It's not a human because it's depending on something else to keep it alive? That's like saying someone on life support is no longer a human.

What makes me sick is how a mother with a conscience can kill her own baby. It's just really fucked up to me. I never want to have any kids, but if I ever got pregnant, I would damn well stay pregnant for 9 months. I would never be able to live with myself knowing I killed my own child who could have had a happy 80+ years of life.

I think a lot of you on here are young males and you can't really grasp that concept... That a mother would be ending the life of her own helpless DNA. There is a staggering number of woman who become depressed and/or suicidal after having an abortion.

I'm not saying I think it should be completely illegal, I just think it's incredibly fucked up. I personally believe that when an egg is fertilized by sperm it becomes a form of life, and no life should be ended in vain.

What's also sad to me is how all of you are able to be against abortion because your mom didn't have one. Another concept I don't think you're able to grasp. All of your lives could have so easily been ended. Don't you feel your worthy to live and be on this earth? I think those unborn babies would feel the same way.

Maybe some of you will change your mind someday when you actually have kids and know what it's like to love them... or when you're trying to have kids but can't. Life is so fragile.

word. up until this point the fetus is no different in composition than a tumor. after the first trimester the person should have to give reason for the abortion and in the third trimester its a baby. just how i see it.

Well first of all this thread is on ns so atleast a third on the replys are stupid ignorant and most likely from 12 year olds. Such as this guy. Still though pro-life is the way to be. If a women wants to have sex then they have to be ready for the possible consquences. Same with the man on the other hand if he wants to play, then he better be ready to deal with providing for the baby until its grown up. If shes raped? Slightly different story but still killing the child will in no way make it better for the women and the baby doesnt even get a chance at life because of the dumb raper. The ONLY time abortion should ever be considered is if the women is going to die because of the baby. And in that case i still believe its wrong because being a Christian i believe that God has a hand in things and what will be will be. Aboertion=Bad

There's many perspectives you'd have to look at; age, situation, finances, scenario ect.

 ex. If someones 20 and well off and just got too wasted one night, i think its not right to abord a child.

But say a situation where a woman was raped and is now pregnant with her rapists child? she'd be mentally unstable for the child and i feel like that is an exception where abortion should not be looked down upon. (my personal opinion)

This is what I don't appreciate. I chose to be pro-life because of my research on the subject matter. I chose to be pro-life because of personal experience with family and friends. I chose to be pro-life because I'm not ignorant, I just feel differently about the issue than some people.

I'm not a "do-good'er," I make plenty of mistakes like any normal human being but I just have a different perspective on life, conception, and abortion. It doesn't make me a bad person nor does it make me "right." Honestly, there is no right or wrong choice, it's just what you feel in your heart.

I know people who have had abortions and I also know people who have children, I respect both.

Thanks, I totally agree, the fact that their is even a discussion over this is a disgrace to modern society. Obviously the implications of "pro-life" policies are considerably more far reaching than simply being a massive intrusion of one's personal rights (which is ironic, seeing as how it is fringe conservative nut-cases who constantly refer to their individual rights who advocate it), but go along with contraceptives as being one of the most important tools 3rd world societies have to alleviate poverty...

unfortunately, religious people for the most part are a fan of pain, suffering, and poverty... I mean, who else do they have to preach to?
