I've watched it multiple times, really opened my eyes to who some of the stept guys really are. I have to say Cam Riley is just about the most impressive skier out their right now (personal opinion) but he's absolutely nuts....something everyone should definitely see. props to Ian and all the other filmers!

That was fucking stupid. I don't mean the documentary but the risk that they were exposing themselves to. I don't know what direction I want skiing to go (and I certainly don't think I am the one to suggest one), but out of a basic respect for life and the consequences of quick little thrills like these, I hope this isn't it.

I hope that Cam understands what could happen. Look at any of the big skiing injuries like Pekka's, and he wasn't even trying to up the danger factor, and it is easy to understand what can happen. These guys seek out rails for the danger. Just because they have gotten lucky so far doesn't mean they will tomorrow, whether it's paralysis, a head injury or death.

Finally, for the guy in that who was suggesting that it was good for him to be at these rails supporting Cam- you are just an enabler, tacitly agreeing to let him put his life at risk. A good friend would tell him to go home. Try to do awesome shit on your skis, but never purposely up the danger for the sake of danger. Do the same shape and length rail somewhere where you are less likely to die if you fall off.

I dont think you understand where these guys are coming from. They are not after cheap quick thrills as you said, this is what they live for, this is what drives them. Its like telling cam sinclair to stop throwing double backflips after it nearly killed him. I dont know what skiing means to you, but for me like the stept kids, its everything. Pushing our sport and pushing ourselves is what makes me and them happy. Go curling if your after a sport with a lower health risk.

have you ever landed something on a fucked up hard urban rail? i cant see that you have. there HAS to be that level of danger or else everyone else would do it.

this is the realest skiing video i have seen in a while. Ian did a great job putting this together and capturing really how going out at 2am is. the stept kids are doing shit right

what i got out of the documentary was that the stept crew is looking for a way to get that constant high and for cam specifically it looks like that high is hitting super gnarly rails. i hope that makes sense

i think it is stupid to put your life at risk like that when he and the rest of the crew hit some crazy shit, but i will say this... by hitting those gnarly rails the stept crew has set themselves apart. the do have the most insane urban shoots and it sells. they will keep doing it because people in this world will praise them for hitting something insane and that could result in death. it does need to be said though that what they are doing is nuts and dangerous but again, it sells.

I know that skiing in general has risks and I definitely know the addiction; I know how scary it is to throw new tricks and how sick it is to land them. I never said not to do anything with risk, but always minimize it when you can.

My point is that you should be addicted to the joy of skiing in general, not just the adrenaline rush. It is shortsighted to think that purposefully putting your life on the line is ever worth it. I have a hard time seeing how Cam will be pumped on that one sick rail shot when he is older and feeling the effects of the abuse that his body has taken (assuming general abuse is the worst).

Either learn to feel joy again from doing new stuff on park rails and safer urbans or, maybe, reevaluate what it is that you love about skiing. Just because you get a rush from Russian roulette does not make it a good idea.

I don't know what style of skiing you do.

The danger factor has always been an amazing feeling. Nothing beats launching yourself off a massive cliff with a sniper landing, or balancing yourself on a rail, or even just hitting a jump.

I love that the sport is getting pushed, I love that I can push my own boundaries and defy what the average human should be able to do..

I know we've had our losses in the past years, but they've all died doing the things they love. If you're doing what you love everyday, you shouldn't have to worry about anything else.

These skiers are an inspiration to so many people out there.
I'm going to pick up urban skiing this year, and Weight was hands down the most creative and inspiring thing I've seen when it comes to just how much people out there can do.

I understand where your coming from saying that it should be about the joy and not the adrenaline rush. But if you listen to Clayton in that video, cam skis at the hill less than 5 days a season. His joy from skiing comes from pushing his rail game and pushing the image of the stept crew. I feel that when im 80 and have arthritis in my knees, i wont regret trying that double(when i do) because i know that i pushed my self as far as i could. Cam is probably thinking the same thing, he probably hasnt thought about what he feel like when he is older as he is enjoying the moment and pushing himself as hard as possible.

What stept does is crazy and that was following their movie two years ago! think abou this season, they fucking went even harder and made an amazing movie, on of my favorites this year. For you to come in here and talk shit on them is fucking pathetic.

You're lecturing like you're a fucking parent or something, what they are doing is fucking so sick man, yeah they risk alot but they know what theyre doing. Big mountain skiers take same risks just in a different venue. They "seek out danger" just like EVERYONE DOES ITS CAUSE BEING AN ADRENALINE JUNKY have you heard of travis pastrana?

If you think that stept is bad, god forbid you watch any skate boarding, theyre so irresponsible!

See, this is where I draw the distinction between "trying that double" and what Cam is doing. When you try that double, do you first do the set of the double a hundred times (ie a bunch of cork 7s before cork 12), do it on a tramp or water ramp, then find a really good jump for it on a day with good weather? Or, do you see it somewhere then say "fuck it, who cares if the light is flat and it's super icy, I'm just gonna go real fast off this side booter and huck it?"

You never see documentaries with old people who made reckless decisions that fucked there lives saying "totally worth it" for a good reason. You do see documentaries with crying mothers though.

I will reiterate, you're a fucking pussy. You know why new tricks are so fun and make people love skiing? Do you know why skiing a huge line or going really fast down some gnarly slope is epic? BECAUSE ITS AN ADRENALINE RUSH. i'd say 75% of the people who ski, ski because of this exact reason. They don't do shit because they think they're gonna die doing it, they do it because when they stomp it, its creates something special. That last shot in the doc was cam stomping that HUGE rail, no one has done something as big and its fucked up impressive. You blatantly don't understand how urban works and why people hit it so much.

I am going to stop arguing after this, I knew I would get some hate but wanted to get my idea out there anyway.

People do like the rush from going big and fast, but they also draw the line at things that are truly reckless. There is a reason why you see lots of people do 20 foot cliffs, but not many are willing to drop something like that thing Jamie Pierre set the record on. Yes, rational people are willing to take risks, but they still manage that risk.

risk in big mountain skiing = risk in urban skiing. Why don't people get knocked off every day? because the people that go huge know what they're doing, just like travis rice does some of the most fucked up shit and doesn't get hurt, cam does some fucked up shit and doesn't get hurt. Experience is the best tool, the stept crew isn't just a group of kids going out and hitting urban for the first time, just like travis rice isn't someone who just went out into the BC and went hard. Stept has been filming hand rails since 2004, they know exactly what they're doing.

And, I have hit urban before, I ski nearly every day in the winter, and compete in slopestyle comps. So, I think that your metaphor may not be totally apt. Don't make assumptions about people you don't know and I will reciprocate by not assuming that you are a bitter also ran in the ski industry who lives vicariously through more talented and driven friends.
