I find it funny that people don't even know what they're getting offended about. Just to clarify:

The video isn't saying you kids look in the mirror and literally see an ethnic gangster. The video is making fun of the fact that you largely come from middle/upper class white families and partake in the whitest sport imaginable yet are still somehow fascinated with the flamboyant expression of inner-city style and mannerisms.

I want to live in a world where every skier under 40 is a little gangster park rat. They would all be skiing on park/pipe skis, and would show no interest in skiing powder, the trees, or the radical cliffy bowls and sidecountry bootpacks. IMO this movement is good for the sport I love because it keeps the little homeys out of my stashes.

Just watched the video and I'm left thinking two things:

That video is literally referring to children, as in no one over the age of 16 could possibly see the world/act like that. And two, I've never even spoken to anyone who approaches skiing like that.

I feel like these back and forths boil it down to the lowest common denominator, and don't really represent the reality or the majority.

It is. It's perpetuating the ridiculous snowboarder v skiers fight.
But snowboarders and now making fun of the skiers being newschool.
It's like skiing is the old parent, snowboarding is now the more mature 20 year old, and freesking is the 16 year old.
Snowboarders did the same thing years ago if I remember correctly. Before the times of newschoolers, they were also "thug" and skaters were before the snowboarders.

You're right. You're missing the point completely.

- We realize everyone has the right to express themselves.
- We realize the targets of this video don't literally believe they are gang-related.
- We are making fun of them anyway because it's funny to us (i.e. we don't give a shit if we're being assholes).
- If they can't take a joke, or at least learn how to make fun of themselves, they are taking life too seriously. If they truly didn't care like they claim, they wouldn't get offended.

But even if we weren't only joking: I like Wu Tang also, but I don't backslap pow runs in a tall-t while using uncreative all-purpose adjectives such as "legit." Just because I am fascinated with a certain movement or respect a public figure doesn't mean I wear the same clothes, talk the same talk, and get the same fucking haircut.

But since most of the kids in question are in that stage in life where one searches for self-identity, it's perfectly acceptable because they'll grow out of it. In the meantime, we're going to be dicks for entertainment purposes. Besides, they're understand where we're coming from when they become adults and it's their turn to facepalm the next generation of lemmings for not being themselves.

this things pisses me off. its half of it is just like random hate, thats unrelated to how skiers dress (2 boards instead of one, talking about how he hates skiers), and the other half could easily be turned around and said about any snowboarders.

Which is why they come to newschoolers, where they can find others that are experiencing the same search for self identity and dealing with that search in a similar manner.
The defensiveness you see is because you are not only being an asshat to them, but also to their approach to finding they're self identity.
And if you truly believe that what they are doing is acceptable, there is no need to tell them they shouldn't. If you want to bitch about them acting out of their income bracket, go to TGR, where the population is older, more mature, and also fails to understand the newschooler search for self identity.
You and the OP know that something like this would receive a negative response, and while I agree that being "thug" is absurd in any instance, as you can see from my post count, I choose not to voice my opinion, or start threads because something that is integral to the main culture of newschoolers doesn't agree with my personal opinion.
