So my friends parents asked me to pick out a laptop for his birthday. He wanted one that he could edit on. I ended up finding him a really good deal on a fast laptop but I forgot he still films with a Sony fx7. Unfortunately, this laptop, like 99% of new PC's, doesn't have firewire, or any expandable slots to add a firewire card. He tried to use a usb to firewire cable and the computer wouldn't recognize the camera.
I feel really bad and need a solution other than, 'ask a friend who has one to borrow his computer'.

Does anyone have any experience with this product or know that it will work to capture HDV off his camera?
