I know what I'm saying is ridiculous, but only because what you are saying is too. You thinking streetwear is just clothes, in other words saying all clothes are the same, just reinforces the point that people are making that you know nothing about streetwear.
The first time you ever see someone or pass by someone on the street, in school, work, wherever, what is the first thing you judge them on? LOOKS, you know nothing about them and that is all you have to judge them on and if you say you never judge people on looks then you are not human. I'm not saying it is good or bad, just human nature.
Wouldn't you rather look good when people see you than be wearing a walmart hoody and nylon pants that make that swishing sound when you walk? Now, you may just not like the style of current "streetwear" but much of society thinks that it is good looking clothing and because of that they will think of you differently if you are wearing it and that, in my opinion, is why people spend so much more money on it besides the fact that it actually does have better quality, better customer service, more thoughtful designs and cuts, etc. even if you disagree with that fact.
