I just finished my project in my wood tech class and I need another one. What should I make? Keep it within reason.

You clearly don't know how guitars are built. Everything has to be so precise, and if it's electric, you have to build all the chambers, ect. For any, you need to align the bridge, neck and pickups/hole. And don't even think about making a neck

Bodies are relatively easy to build. Necks on the other hand, take some skill and patience. He could just build a kickass body then slap a Fender neck in there...bing bom boom.

Definitely sure you don't know much about guitars.

I have built several guitars from scratch. Electric, Acoustic, and started a Hollowbody that needs to be finished at some point. I have also repaired countless guitars and performed nearly every major and minor aspect of guitar repair. Granted, did go to school for Guitar Repair and Construction so I should have that kind of experience under my belt.

I personally think that building and shaping a neck is one of the easier tasks. I definitely found it the most enjoyable aspect except for stringing up the finished product. Your hand is in contact with the neck the most, so it's great to be able to tailor the neck to your own personal taste rather than taking whatever Fender or Gibson puts out there.

As far as a wood project goes, a musical instrument is my vote. A ukulele does not require much wood stock or materials. The molds are small and can be constructed easily. Plans are available online for little or no money. Bending the sides is the most troublesome point for those with no experience, and does require some additional tools.

Ha! A kid tried this at my school, and got expelled....

But serious note try making a bowl, I'm doing one right now in my Wood's class on a lathe:) But one tip do small fun projects their way more rewarding than spending 6 months on a dresser. Did that last year FML but definantely small little things are the way to go!

Sorry for double post, but I made 8 drawers on my dresser last year and we set up a jig to make perfect dovetails. So i might be able to hook the guy up if he needs it. And these joints are tight!

If only we had a lathe. We have a fucking metal lathe and I'm the only one who's used it to make anything other than dumb rings in the last four years, but no wood lathe.

This. My dad and i have built two guitars from scratch over the pasttwo years. For the first one i would reccomend buying a neck but the bodies are pretty straight forward. Just measure a million times before you drill or rout anything...
