Fishing???

Anyone like to fish almost as much as they like to ski???  I do!  Mostly bass fishing but I just recently got into trout fishing.  Going on my first King Salmon/Steelhead trip on Wednesday...wish me luck!  Oh, and feel free to upload pics of your best catches of the season.

Solid largemouth caught in NY...probably about 8-9lbs.  Sorry for the shitty pic, I had to take it by myself...gotta keep this honeyhole a secret ya know!!

All I really caught this summer were little grayling. I had the chance to fish at Kluane Lake in the Yukon but got skunked. The worst part is my buddy caught a decent lake trout first cast using my rod when i went to the truck to warm up.

nice catfish dude!  where you fishin at?  you live line those suckers??  we caught a few bullhead this year live lining sawbellies for brown trout.  a buddy of mine actually foul hooked a big old fatty with a crank bait in the river...i'll see if i can find a pic.

We fish the Coralville res in Iowa. All bait is usually either sunfish, shad guts, or worms.

A 126 pound halibit in seward alaska. Sorry the pics are on another computer and im at college. It was so hard to pull in when i was sick sick. Had enough fish to last the year.

nope no flyfishing for this guy. Never really interested in it, and most flyfishers i know are just hardcore pricks that frown upon any other form of fishing. I do use flies on a 12-14 ft cane pole when the bluegill and crappie get finicky. Gets em every time.

i know what you mean...definitely more of a yuppie crowd.  and the gear is soo fucking expensive.  i tried it this year for the first time and had a lot of fun though...i'm thinkin about pickin up a fly rod this winter to use for trout in the spring.

picked this porker up on the first day of bass season...i think he was around 22" which in NY puts him around 6.5-7lbs.  caught on ultra light tackle...the only way to fish for bass!!

My first king salmon.  This guy was a juvenille called a jack.  He was only about 7 pounds but he put up an unbelievable fight.  It took about 25 minutes to land him.  I also caught a trophy coho salmon but I don't have the picture yet.  He weighed in just over 16lbs!

My first steelhead. got him last fall on the credit river in ontario, prob 2 lbs.

that same day i hooked into what must have been a 10 pounder, but he broke me off within 30 seconds.

awesome dude!  i've hooked into a few steelhead but have yet to land one...over the weekend my friend landed a 14 pounder in the salmon river.  i'll see if i can get a pic.

Caught these bad boys at a roller dam on the river about two weeks ago. There's 27 in that picture but we had caught more after the pic was taken. All channel cats, biggest were 5 and 10 lbs.

I just have a little 2x2x3 deep freeze haha, keeps all my meat and corn...its getting pretty empty though. Fortunately my dad bought me a deep freeze thats like 1.5 times bigger than this one cus he wants my deepfreeze for his pheasant hunting trips haha.

i hooked him on a tiny size 14 orange glow bug (egg fly). ill post pics later maybe.

but honestly i had the best luck (hooked 2 other steelies that day) with this fly : http://www.shop.speysteelhead.com/Great-Lakes-Steelhead-Fly-Microspawn-Egg-Fly-2031032.htm

The looser yarn wraps gets caught in the steelies teeth even if they try to throw the fly so you have more time to set the hoot resuting in more hooked fish. landing them is another story tho haha

thanks for the link. looks like it would definitely do the trick and it sure beats tying your own egg sacks!!

I use a 9' spinning noodle rod with 12lbs fluorocarbon. with this tackle i find that the absolute best bait for steelhead are brown trout eggs in either a pink or blue sack. only problem is you can't buy them in NY, so first you have to find some eggs and then you have to tie your own. it is super messy and laborious but they hold up pretty well in the water and they work like a charm!

yeah ALOT of guys in ontario use egg sacks with a float fishing technique. personally im all flyfishing, and i tie my own flies. but sometimes flyfishing is a bitch when the rivers crowded.

its called lily pond its in new hampshire probably around 15 acres. that one was on my baitcaster so not as good of a fight but i caught others that size on a medium weight spinning rod. i cant imagine that thing on ultra lite tackle. do you guys do any smallmouth fishing?

i love catching smallmouth...definitely one of my favorite freshwater fish. pound for pound they fight super hard. i caught a few in some lakes and streams in the adirondacks last summer. i took a couple of trips up to the catskills this summer fishing the pepacton reservoir and the delaware river but didn't hook up with any smallies.

Smallie fishing on Mille Lacs is unreal, its almost cheating. I was walleye fishing and caught a 21.5 inch almost 6lb smallie

Being from pennsyltucky I don't know a sockeye from a humpback but I was told that is a silver salmon or coho. Caught it in the prince william sound on a large spoon with a treble hook. Not bad for your first time fishing in alaska, although they weren't really hard to catch honestly.

They are native to the Delaware river and most of its tributaries. The schuykill runs into the delaware and the Perkiomen runs into the schuykill. We catch usually about one of these a night when we go nightfishing in the summer. We're probably about 30 or 40 miles upstream from the Delaware.

Never ate one but I've heard if you smoke them they can be damn tasty. Like anything else here on the ice coast though I'd be worried about mercury. I'd try it though if I had a smoker.

that is awesome dude!!  i'm sure they taste amazing but i would also be hesitant to eat em because of pollution.  i pretty much limit my wild caught fish consumption to a handful of trout and salmon i catch each year.

the salmon river in pulaski, ny?  i fished up there this past fall...epic!!!  sooo many giant fish cruising up the river...browns, kings, coho, steelhead.  definitely worth the trip.

Yeah my dad and uncle go every year and I always skip it. That's right around the time the blues are running down the coast so I usually go to the beach instead and surf fish. I'll try it one of these years though I'm sure.

you can fish up there pretty much all winter for steelhead...cold as shit but they might be one of the most amazing freshwater fish out there.  pound for pound they fight soooo hard.  and they taste amazing!!
