is top rated videos broken? i dont understand it. In the "month" section, the nimbus video is #1 with 31 ratings at 9.97 and was posted september 7th then in the "all time" section #1 is Oystein Braaten's edit with 83 ratings at 9.59. Do you need a certain number of ratings to get to all time?

so I dig the new layout, but I think it'd be more beneficial to put more than 2 columns worth of videos. now I'm sitting here clicking through 5 pages of vids that would've shown on just the first page with the old layout.

Not really feedback just something I picked up on. In the latest videos, videos that use the newschoolers uploader have a lot more views then the embedded videos. Probably because everyone is to lazy to click the top for videos + embedded. Promotes using the uploader which is a lot better then before.

not sure if this has been answered or not yet, but would it be more beneficial to have the top rated embeds and ns uploader show up auto instead of having to click embeds? like said above i see alot more ns uploader views now instead of vimeo for an example.. not saying it is a bad thing but there are a lot of good top rated vids that are using and embed that arent being seen. just my 2 cents

how can i found the video i want ?

it was probably one of the highest top-rated summer setup video and now when i write sumemr setup in the searchbar, it's only video from 2007 and 2006 !

seems like the uploader isn't working for me. i chose the video i wanted, only 34MB and a .mov file, and the progress bar hasn't moved and it says 128 hours left. need help.

so i hate to ask pretty much the same question again, but do you have to have over 50 ratings for all time toprated because i see stuff in the monthly with a 9.02 of 46 rating and its not in all time? i'm just going to assume this is the case but if not i would like to know whats goin on with this

There is more than just the rating and number of ratings that are considered for the Top Rated videos. Like karma we have a complex formula to calculate these.

i was always under the impression that the top rated videos were the top rated videos and not a result of formulas involving karma. so therefore since i'm not a super active member and consequently have relatively low karma my videos that have ratings high enough to make top rated page don't because of my low karma. is this it? i think i'm alot closer to the answer i sought and i thank you very much for that the logical formulas that make my videos less visible just because i'm less popular, not saying i dont like what you've done, just saying i dont like that my 9.02 is below 8.00s because of my karma. but again thanks for the help

forgot to say what i actually wanted to. now that everything is complete, and once i got used to it i kinda like the change even though it was probably better as it was. its just a little confusing at first but now its much better

Uh I think what he meant was that in the same way that karma is not a simple calculation, top rated is also not a simple calculation. it's based off multiple factors. he never said karma was one of those factors.

You seem to have read that wrong. A members karma is not factored in, nor who the member is at all. The calculation involves things like the rating, number of ratings, and how long the video has been on the site.

whenever i look at videos in IE they still freeze everything for about a minute or two, IE just stops responding. I'm going to use chrome so it doesnt matter to me much, but wanted to leave this here..

I just tried to upload an .mov twice and got "task queue failed at step 5:playlist could not be loaded:HTTP status 404; not found" is the problem cause the video file is 1080p? this was never a problem before.

I think they're doing that on purpose, so that you aren't looking as user names to find videos.

Usernames are tight. I'm just gonna let you guys do your thing and see how this pans out. I'm sure it will be great when it's finished but it's a headache as of now.

Well its tight for you cause you're name is orange and probably get 2-3 times the views of any other person because of that. Not having the user name erases the identity and I think is suppose to generate more views of non "pro" members. But, I like when people can identify my name on the video list because a lot of people like my videos, so we'll see what they do.

i agree, in part. when i saw that you had uploaded something, i went to latest and scrubbed through 3 or 4 videos until i found yours. i like the idea of this but i'm just not sure of its practicality. Apart from orange "pro" names, i think name recognition is something worth thinking about.

Well it only makes sense because people identify with the orange names and know it's an industry or pro based video. For instance, I posted my new Hood edit in the new video gallery and it only has 1 rating and 16 views all day, versus the 2,700 hits and 80 likes I've received today through Vimeo & Facebook. The new video gallery does a disservice to those filmmakers who use the gallery for promotional means.

Hmm that's weird, a video i posted that has nothing to do with skiing has 193 views and 17 ratings and i posted it like less than 24hr ago.

I was just checking it out and its probably not getting any views because you didnt actually upload your video to NS, the default for the videos when you go to it doesn't show embeds, you have to choose to show it, i believe they're trying to eliminate using embeds in the video section.

Well 2 things. The name not showing up was a bug and will be back.

As far as the low number of views, eheath is right. The system is set up to really drive views to the content that is hosted on NS because we can do so much more. An embed is basically code and a huge pain for us to distribute around the site. It ends up in Top Rated sections of the Day/week/month, NSTV, Cult Channels, Home Page, Side Bars etc etc. Direct uploads can easily get a couple thousands views in its first few days, but the embeds are dropping off quickly.

We've tried to design the whole media system to encourage people to upload your ski related content here. You can take an embed from NS and post anywhere on the internet and we'll still count your views for you. We've given HD quality. We are polishing our desktop uploader which will allow you to send files around 2gig, with an autorestart option so we'll never have to worry about failed uploads again. If you are stuck on Vimeo then that's your call, but give us a try and let us know if there is more we need to do to be your media host.

Is there any chance we could get a "sort by" option for video searches? So when you search you get top rated results first, most recently uploaded results, least recently uploaded results etc. Idk if this is more related to the search bar or the video section, or for that matter how difficult it would be to implement. Just a thought.

When I'm logged in, viewing pages that has a video on it (video of the day, or any page that stems from the "video" tab that contains a video) causes my browsing window to become unresponsive for about 30 seconds. Then the page reboots and the video autoplays. This doesn't happen when I watch videos that have been embedded in threads. Any ideas?

I have a suggestion/question. When you post links on facebook via vimeo it shows up as the video and they can watch it directly on facebook, same with many other video hosting sites.
Is their anyway to do this with newschoolers video player? Im sure it cant be to hard many other websites do it. Lots of the time people are to lazy to click on a link and then watch from there, they usually just want to press play right on the newsfeed. It would be a sick integration for the player.
