this is exactly how I feel. I don't normally comment in the site discussions but I felt the need after I saw the new vid section. please... go back to the list view. it's easier on the eye and you can scroll through what you want to watch a lot easier.

Paul is working on the new display right now.

I guess the data about the video is more important than the thumbnail?

I'm curious about this - many videographers that I talk with LOVE the big icons in Vimeo as an advertisement for their movie.

However, you guys would prefer the old list just the way it was?

WHAT is better?

Thats the thing. our new view had just as many videos you could see. If we add latest, yet keep thumbnail view, you're actually presented with as much or even slightly more videos.

The question is what is it really that you like about the "latest videos" part of newschoolers?

No other video sites are like that, and people use them a ton. They focus way more on the larger icon and grid style view vs. list.

all my videos other than 3 random ones still haven't come back yet and it seems that pretty much everyone else's have. is this still going to change or are they gone forever..?

Dan, I checked and you have the 3 videos that are showing, 2 set to private and 4 remotely hosted ones in your gallery.

If you go into My Media you can display the private ones to show.

For the remotely hosted you have to toggle the "Videos & Embedded" for the others to be displayed in your list

We could have more easily added the ability to choose thumbnails than changing it to list format.

Anyways, list format changes incoming.

Thanks, I see the ones you're talking about but I probably had at least 15 or 20 other videos and edits that were all uploaded to the NS player in the last year or two that are not there at all anymore. And I was just concerned because as I checked other peoples accounts I noticed all their videos were still there however all of mine with the exception of 3 random ones and 2 embedded ones had disappeared and I don't know why.

But that is the reason i chose to go to newschoolers first when i was looking for good videos. Because i knew i could always get the best and newest videos. The latest was wat differentiated NS making it better than other sites

Well best and newest are two different things. :)

Latest does get you the newest, but not necessarily the best. Of course, that's what top rated and NSTV channels 1-3 are.

I get that, I really do. I thought that people would want to see things split into categories, so you could even faster get what you wanted based on what type of video you were looking for...

However, I guess I was wrong.

To at least explain, the thing is that sometimes I'm in the mood to watch a couple of jumps, sometimes a couple of rails, and sometimes I want to watch edits. We spent a ton of time picking the category order based on what we thought people would want to see first.

Then, its super easy to get to each category page, so you can see exactly what you want.

Anyways... the list view doesn't take that away, just rams it all together. If that's what you guys want, that's what you get.

I personally enjoy having a thumbnail, but I think it should be in a list format. Big thumbnail + list format + all the data that was in the list format will be a perfect way to do it imo.

Also, if you guys could allow us to upload our own thumbnails that would be awesome, or at least let us choose from 3 like youtube.


And I say again, Vimeo is way different. Vimeo is such a mix of different videos that nobody would want to wade through all the videos that are uploaded every day anyway. But on NS, every video is relevant to our interests, and there aren't THAT many uploaded every day, so it's nice to be able to see all of them in one place and directly see how they compare to one another.

i actually really like the way it is in the categories now, but i think you should keep it like that, yet just add a latest section in with all the categories togather, put it right under the being watched now category!

THANK YOU SO MUCH BISHOP. When I logged on this afternoon I found an awesome "latest" section on the video wall. Now my life is finally back in order. The page does look a little different with the bigger pics but whatever I will adjust. I now have my latest vid fix and nothing matters. It makes me feel great when I watch you interactively change this site and sincerely use people's input. You sir are a boss.

Maybe it was like that before but I didn't notice it. On my VIP NS account there is now a "latest edit" section under the "vids being watched" section

well thats just the "edit" category, it still doesnt include all the rail, jump, big mountain categories... i can see how you got confused!

You should put the Lastest video section back. I don't even want to watch videos anymore because there is not enough good new stuff to watch easily.

Paul got buried in a couple other things today, so to give you guys easy access to what you want, I added a nav item underneath the "Videos" tab for "Latest"

That is latest of all categories.

Don't thank me for listening to you guys, Paul (NoPoles) should get the credit. He's the one that busts his ass to give you what you want.

Actually... the entire team deserves a round of applause for their work on this one!

We need black bars for widescreen videos, grey bars throw off how your eyes perceive the color of the video. Should be a relatively easy fix.

I am still really bummed all of my rating got deleted during the update. My video went from top 10 on the site to pretty much nonexistent due to the lack of ratings, yet it has over 100 comments...

A couple of my videos only load halfway while others work just fine. Also, some of my videos lost all the comments but kept the ratings.

i'm loving the new uploader but for some reason i can upload videos but they dont show up... it doesnt show up when i embed either and ive tried on 3 different computers wtffffff

1. Did you make sure to assign them to a Category after the upload completed.

2. videos don't show up in the list now until they are encoded. Maybe its not complete

3. The default view in Videos under your profile is "Videos"
and the Embeds are hidden, I see you have a ton of embedded videos

4. If you have a specific title you uploaded and are missing message me and we'll see whats up

You can't go to "All Time" & "Videos & Embedded" at the same time. Solution: Go back to the way it was. There were no faults before, in my honest opinion. I understand what you guys are trying to do, but this isn't Facebook. I'm all for change but not at the expense of an already working system.

alright so i can upload the video file, and i tagged everything i need to and saved it. it says finished but never let me choose a category or anything so the only thing i can do is close the window, but then it wont show up as a video i uploaded... am I just really stupid or is there a problem

i'm not sure if that would work either though, unless you just mean legit webisodes like tc (but then again, that's what nstv is for). so many kids are calling their 3-4 minute edits 'webisodes' these days

In the last ten or fifteen minutes, the latest videos stopped being "latest". They were a list of videos from random years in descending order based on number of people who rated the video, but not the highest rated. Also they are not consistent every time I visit the latest video page. I might be the only one, but that is what is happening for me.

(Its only nice because i saw videos from like 2006 without spending 20 minutes hitting the next page button in the video section)
