Well my video has been up for a couple hours, and has gotten like 8 views, 1 or 2 of which were my own. It was briefly on the new edits thing until 3 more were uploaded, now it isn't getting any views because nobody can see it. probably gonna take it down now.


sorry guys, don't think the new system is gonna work.

However, I did see that under 'my media' there is a button for 'video encoding' and 'failed to encode,' or something like that. Are those new? If they are, that's awesome. Very useful.

We understand this issue, but please help think about it from our perspective too. Open your mind to what I am about to say.

First - we have much better uploading solutions coming. We know the current one is better but not perfect.

Second - we built a complex system of media handling across our entire site. This system handles video media, and displays it in all kinds of cool ways enhancing a ski-focused video experience.

Third - Embedded videos are not videos. They are embed code. On the code side of the site, we can not be as advanced with the handling in our systems if we have to support both embed code and video. Sure to you it LOOKS like video, but it is not video... it is code.

Fourth - Embedded is good when people put the right size up, but templates are regularly broken or look like shit when people put tiny or massive embeds.

There's a million reasons why we can't properly support embedded videos right alongside properly uploaded systems. We had to go out of our way to hack together support for embedded systems when we made the new systems. However, because we believe in supporting what you want, we went out of our way to do it.

After all of that, I think that I agree that we need to add a latest added list. We will simply submit defeat on the issue, but give us a week or two to make it happen. We'll have the option to choose between displays built into it, so you can see whichever one you wish.

We will begin rolling out the fancy uploader as soon as we can, so that you premium producers are able to have a much better experience.

FINALLY - You will not qualify for the NSTV Producer program if you are only embedding media. We are going to be paying people cash money to post videos on our site. So getting used to our system can have great benefit to a young producer such as yourself looking to actually pay a few bills with your web content rather than just giving it away for free to Vimeo.

We'll work as hard as we can to give you guys the quality experience you are looking for, but please - just give uploading to Newschoolers a chance. If you have an issue that is keeping you from uploading here, and Vimeo is so much better that you refuse to take part in waht we do, then embed away - but please tell us exactly why you are doing it so we can put those features on the list and get you the product that you require.

Once/if they put the most recent section back in place, the NS video section is gonna be really dope. much better than before. but right now the fact that it's missing is kinda throwing it all off

So our video is showing up in the my media section and says that it worked and it does play when i click on the little i button in the top but it still isnt showing up in our actual video section so I assume other people can't see it.

just wondering whats up. and sorry to be a broken record but Will is spot on with it being hard to get views now. Having your video on the most recent page for at least a day or two was really good for getting view until it either bombed or got on the top rated page.

Which video is it?

If you uploaded it to the mymedia interface, you will have to pick a category to publish the piece of media into. If you want it private, just leave it private... all private videos will just sit in one pool.

If you want to publish it, you have to decide to add it to an NSTV channel, put it on the site somewhere, or assign it to one of the public galleries. If you do nothing, it won't show up because it will be private.

Haha well I'd like to think it is. It's our soul crew summer edit, and while our edits don't get as many views as some, we usually rack up several hundred views and a decent amount of comments pretty quick, and that didn't happen.

glad to hear you guys are so open to what we are saying. and as i said before, on the whole i'm really stoked on the change, and I'm sure it will only get better in the next couple weeks.

we need a "last added" in vid a pictures
because now we have to choose every category and see about the new vids and pictures
it gonna get less views in every video right now ...
the people want to see new stuffs on the easiest form

This is a stat I would like to see... can you please show me where you found it, and as well link me to the page where this is?

We'll build the system at some in the next week or two. We can't just enable the old one because we changed so much about the way it was built.

We're always willing to listen to you guys. That is and always has been the way that Newschoolers works. Without taking your feedback, we would be nowhere.

Sorry for being so absent for so long on fixing things. The backend changes necessary to roll out these features was absolutely massive.

ignore this if it has already been addressed.... but it would be nice if it showed how long the video is on the video page rather than having to click on it and it only is a 35 second edit

that is the reasoon why we have to keep
the lasted added in principal page in video section...
now every people must to go to choose the category first and then " Videos & Embedded " and LATEST....

the new vid update is sick but just get this back to please

Alright this is wicked fucking gay. I enjoy watching the new edits from crews that I have never heard of, now i only can watch edits of shit that other people watch, in other words im gona watch hyped up shit, thats not chill. This new format isnt that bad, but there should def be another "latest" section because thats the best part! shit man, bring that back! Fucking A!

I don't like the large thumbnail view. I think the old way of listing videos was alot easier to read plus you can see like 40 videos at one time vs 10.

My computer freezes up for a good 2 minutes before every video, and it never did that with the old player. Also, i think the gallery should be left kind of how it was, with the latest videos in one category.but the being watched now section is a good idea.

I thought we were going to be able to subscribe to our favorite channels.  Is it because not many member channels have been created yet or am i blind? 

Thank you for the upcoming "new videos" section".  Not having that would be sort of  like skimming through the forums via categories.  I hope you still keep the "videos being watched"  that's pretty cool.

On the home page where you have "Video of the day/week/month", video should be plural since you have multiple videos per day/week/month. same with pictures.

This really shouldn't be an issue for any modern website. All you have to do is do a quick parse on the code before you store in it the db and replace the height and width. You can even change other parameters if you wanted to. I wrote a function in 5 minutes that will allow you to set the height and width on a embed string. More than welcome to use/improve it if you want.

This is annoying, I also don't like the categories because so many edits are diverse and feature rails, park and pow.. kinda bummed on top rated as well..miss the old video section already... embedding is dope tho..

Usually I go into the video section 5-10 times a day. So far I have not been in there once besides to look at it for the first time. Its lacking a latest section for sure. and the thumbnails are a little big. Usually when I put a video up it gets many views and many comments but I put one up yesterday and their is no views and no comments :(

Besides that, the quality is great.

Just for the record, I wasn't trying to bring up the NS uploader vs. embed debate again - that one's been hashed to shit. I think I was more bothered by the lack of the "latest added" sorting option, seeing as I feel as though it should be the "default" choice when you go to view a profile's videos.

I like the top rated broken up into day, week, month, all time but I really think you need to set the default to day or else the system will get not be as dynamic. In other word since the first video people see will the be all time top rated, it will get more views and votes thus keeping it at the top rated spot. Switching it to daily top rated will help expose new media and keep the rankings fresh

The old system was much easier on the eyes and quicker to navigate. I did not even want to watch a video when I saw all these huge thumbnails haha. Sorry I couldn't be more specific but I saw the new section and had to comment
