all of my videos are gone...except one. WTF and im missing a bunch of pictures.... is this gonna be fixed? i realize it is still upgrading so hopefully when its done my stuff will be back.

Besides having everything gone, Will the embeded videos come back?
Cause I noticed only my NS posted videos are there.

The quality is amazing now, Im stoked on that!

Just a small thing. I don't know if it's worth your time to fix, but on the right side in the playlist bar thing the date and the title are the exact same font/size. Looks kinda weird to me

This is all part of the importing process. Sorry, some of your media / ratings will disappear and re-appear throughout the day.

Embedded videos are still going to be on the site. We want you to use our new system, but we will not force it.

The only thing we did have to do is treat them differently than regular videos. Since we were doing huge upgrades to the video hosting, we had to separate the two systems. We did our best to give you a mode where you can display both inline with each other, but since we have no control over remotely hosted videos they can not be displayed in all of the new systems.

It shouldn't really change all that much for you. Most public galleries have embedded mode within them.

Make a favorite option for videos, pictures and threads. That way we never loose/forget edits we love. Plus it would make people log into their accounts more often, rather then just clicking "continue as guest". Yes, we're that lazy.

Video player looks great, It's very smooth and actually not a pain in the ass for me anymore because videos would lag before.

Sorry, this was a bug. There is an option to delete your media under "Edit Media". The link is currently missing, and we're working on putting it in there.

Really really like the upgrades. Stoked on the new player and layout. It will take everybody a bit to get used to but it's definitely much better than before. THANKS!

different and will take some time to get used to. but overall i like the separation of the different sections on the latest tab. one more suggestion which i have said before... but in the video section it would be cool if when you rolled over the video a few frames/screen-captures from the video previewed it. i think it would be a cool addition though i have no idea what it would require for it to be done.

Diggin a lot of the new introductions! just one question though.. Is there something similar to the "latest videos section", without that how is newly uploaded media going to get discovered/viewed? I kinda skimmed through a lot of the articles on the site additions so if I missed this my bad.

wait, so when i click vidoes>latest, i gat a gallrey of all categories seperated?

i liked it the way it was before, i want to be able to see all the video categories combined. i never go into the video section with the mindset of finding a vid about jumps, or big mountain, i just like going through all the categoried organized by when they were uploaded. not have to go through each category one and find somthing to watch.

if its gonna be like this, im prolly not gonna use the vid section much

Hahahha... I'll admit we actually looked to some of those sites for inspiration on the functions. They are very advanced video technology. :)

Sadly this would require an upgrade of the entire encoding farm, which is something we'd like to do, but will come later.

Well the big thing that we did was add the "videos being watched" section. This is a great way to see what videos people are digging.

We decided to not do the latest added display.

Well...

We thought about this idea for a long, long time.

What we did was build a flow for you, which starts at "videos being watched" and leads you on a video adventure.

I am very confident that this method of seeing video will allow you a much better experience of finding content you want to watch. Please give it a shot... we tested this thing forever and are pretty sure this is the right move.

i got ya.

but i REALLY like how it has the channel like thing so you can see the members other vids and the related vids are cool too. a lot like youtube.

im sure after getting used to it i wont mind it as much.

We need a latest section.
I like to go there and see if someone has posted new content.
How does a video get viewed? you click on there profile and then watch it?!?!?

Im interested in this as well. Only other thing ive noticed is that I cant seem to find a View counter on the videos.

Other than that Im really diggin the new player, the quality is great. Stoked to use the new system this season!

so from what i can tell, each category (rails, jumps, etc.) is a latest added section? but on the main gallery page, it only shows the 4 most recent.

i agree with what zac said: if you can't see all recent videos (embedded included) on one page and not just the 4 most recent in each category, how will people ever find new videos? new videos will not make it onto the 'videos being watched' list if people never see them.



not sure how you guys envisioned this working, but this was a huge mistake in my opinion. i'd say before making any other changes to ns, work on fixing this asap

yes i think its kinda weird not having one. maybe right under 'being viewed now'?? i always go into video section just seeing whats new not the intent of view rails, or jumps or something like op said.

Player is sick, quality is sick, layout is awesome. No latest uploaded videos is a big downer. Don't really like not having that section. Also will previous comments/ratings be re available or are we starting fresh?

Yes the homepage has all latest added, just split into categories.

Listen we'll make you a deal -

Try the new system for a couple of weeks. Give it a real try. See what happens. If nobody can find new media, then we'll re-build it the way you want it.

We're not afraid to admit we're wrong, but we just do want to try this. We are pretty sure that the new display is going to work really well.

Look at Vimeo and YouTube - neither of them rely on a "latest added" display, and both of them are a great video experience.

All the comments and ratings are imported but it take a little time for things to regenerate, so may be a bit before everything it fully displayed

Yeah but, youtube and vimeo have hundreds of thousands of videos posted each day. Sometimes NS only gets 10 a day. Is there no way you guys can implement the new features with some of the old features? like latest & such.

I don't think you can really compare this to Vimeo and Youtube, because NS is really completely different (as a webiste that happens to have a vid section vs a video hosting site). And think about how many videos get lost and ignored on Youtube. Additionally, most videos I watch on vimeo and youtube are linked to me or i see them embedded somewhere. Rarely do I start from scratch on either of those sites and enter search terms hoping to find a vid I like. One of the things that people loved about the latest added page was that you could easily see all the videos that had been uploaded, and it made it really easy to see videos that otherwise may not have received much attention.


regardless, good job on the player itself guys. seems solid so far!

Maybe just change up the categorie names. Rarely is a video just rails or just jump or just big mountain.
Maybe Categories like:
Powder
Season Edits
Summer
More along those lines.

I totally get that. Really where the difficulty came for us is that the media handling of both photos and videos uses the same back end system. We needed to do this in order to keep the level of work under control.

So we tried to get something that solved both issues together, while at the same time really focusing on making a new and better experience.

It might be true that videos on newschoolers need an all-latest list. We'll see.

Right now, you have blended views of each category of latest, dependant on what you want to see. There is all kinds of top rated, channels, and other ways for videos to get viewed. Anywhere a video is viewed, it will show up in the recently being watched.

Anyways, give it a try and see what happens. Again, if everyone totally agrees that we need a latest added from every category list, we'll build it.
