Help me replace my stolen stuff

Hey guys,

Someone jacked my bag of ski stuff when I got back from skiing at T-line a few months ago. Luckily, somehow renters insurance covers most of it... after a hefty deductible. Anyways, I have some money to replace things, and since I bought a lot of the gear a long time ago, wondering what I should get this season. I'd like to not go over my price allocations, but I figure I'll have to on some things.

About me - I like my gear to last. I ski in the PNW, so for jackets and gloves, waterproof, thin shells and replaceable liners are nice.


- Everyday gloves (Had Hestra Morrison Pro's): $150

- Park gloves (Had Joystick gloves): $30

- Helmet (Had Smith Variant Brim, I want a bigger brim and audio): $90

- Rain shell for touring/hiking (Had a Marmot shell, might just replace it unless theres a ski brand that makes a baller one): $90

- Ski Poles: $30

- Boot Dryer: $35

- Face Mask (a bandanna or something): $20


What would you get?

Dakine and hestra make solid gloves for everyday gloves. A lot of their higher end ones are incredibly waterproof, some are gortex. For park gloves, I have the armada triple glove, lightweight, keeps water out and is comfortable. For a helmet, the smith variant brim has the largest brim I can think of, unless you get a full face. Get that with the skullcandy helmet audio kit ($25 I think) and you're golden. For a rain shell, look to marmont, Holden and the north face for lightweight waterproof shells. Poles for $30 is a little tougher. I have some k2 ones that are $25 that work fine, jus go to rei or something and get whatever fits and is in your price range. For a face mask, get a Yowie, stays dry and looks good. If you want a bandana, Avalon 7 makes good ones that do t freeze (see CR in EDIAS)

Gloves I'd go dakine...I have yet to go wrong with those...any of them....always warm...and I love my bern helmet....I know they're kinda trendy but I love the fit and the liner keeps me plenty warm....as far as the rest I can only recommend Oakley outerwear...it's the only brand I've had that I can honestly say I haven't been able to destroy....sucks man but good luck!....pm me if I can help further.

i would stick with the hestras for gloves i have the seth lobster mitts and i cant really see gloves getting better than that

i dont have a lot of time to respond, but as for the audio helmet, i'd say skip that feature.

i purchased one a couple seasons ago and quickly realized that it's extremely inconvinient unless you're skiing by yourself. you dont have the option of only listening in one ear, and whenever someone wants to talk to you then you're forced to dig through your jacket to pause it and continue your conversation.

plus, it's pretty dangerous to ski with music in that you cant take out quickly or somewhat hear over. it's a rare instance, but hearing someone shout at the right moment can make a big difference.

I have a poc receptor thall with audio. They come with a brim too. Audio is solid too and easy all you have to do is put the audio clip with the volume control somewhere covenient. Just my 2 cents

Poc synapsis 2. But I think the variant brim is your best bet

I'm sorry, I personally will not buy or support Scott USA.

The Giro MX 10 is good looking for sure, and the Smith Variant had some annoying problems with the ear pads and my huge ears. Thanks for the heads up on the POC, might have to try that on sometime if anyone locally stocks it.

Poles and a shell for hiking/touring are the only things left.

marmot randonnee best gloves i have ever had: $110

joysticks are definitely quality, or maybe candygrind

- Helmet (Had Smith Variant Brim, I want a bigger brim and audio): $90
giro g10 is what i have awesome helmet super warm and great venting: $150 maybe i cant remember

- Rain shell for touring/hiking (Had a Marmot shell, might just replace it unless theres a ski brand that makes a baller one): $90
arc'teryx makes some great stuff for this a bit expensive but will last forever

- Ski Poles: $30
head poles are pretty good

that what i would get
i wasn't too sure on some of the prices but yeah

I also have a Marmot rain shell and have been pretty happy with it thus far. I used to have a Mountain Hardwear one that was pretty bombproof however the inside lining started to peel apart after a while.

For the face mask, go for an arctic yowie. Protection from wind burn but not too hot for warm days, but flip it to the fleece side and you're set when things get icy.
