The worst part about the media/internet allowing these typically uninformed opinions to be so readily heard is that it promotes the spread of these ignorant views. The simple truth is that the more most people hear something said, the more likely they are to believe it and with the ease of access to any viewpoint on any subject, it really isn't hard for someone to convince themselves that their ideas must be right because they found so many other people on the internet or heard so many other people on MSNBC, FoxNews, etc. that hold the same opinions, no matter how wrong they really are.
Like the OP said "As they refuse to take in information, their opinions becomes a fact" and with the support of other like-minded (albeit potentially uninformed) individuals, it becomes even easier for people to choose to not listen to anything that contradicts their ideas because they know how many others agree with what they are saying.
Sorry if this is worded a little confusingly, but I thought it might help better illustrate how the media and internet fit into the spread of this problem.
