Does money really make you happy?

I hear a lot of people say that money can't buy happiness and I know money's not everything but.... it sure seems like it would make me happy. If I had tons of money I could just do whatever I wanted and then keep everything else that I like in my life. Sounds good to me. Thoughts?

Money won't make me happy yes, but I know if I had enough money that I didnt have to ever work another day in my life I would be way happier than I am now.  To be able to travel the world and sleep in every day would be so sick you have no idea

I've heard that the cap for the money-to-happiness ratio is like $100,000 a year or something, that is to say that people who make $200,000 a year aren't typically more happy than people who make $100,000.

Obviously someone living under the poverty line will probably be less happy than someone living above it, but people are all different and make of their situation what they will.

It takes stress off and makes you feel GOOD and happy if you get some when you need it but money in your life isn't nearly as important as many other things. Like love: money can't buy me it.

If you ask me, it's not the money that makes you happy, it's the opportunity that money can give you. I guess it comes down to how you use that money.

Obviously, you can't buy everything that makes you happy, but money can definitely help.

Fuck, money would make me happy. As much as it might make me seem like a greedy bastard, having enough money to buy a nice pair of skis every year and move out west and ski every day I want would make me happier than anything.

having money obviously relieves some of the day to day stresses of making ends meet, but having a lot of it comes with it's own set of problems, too. they're different problems, of course hell, If you've never experienced them you'd probably just laugh because they might not seem like "real" problems to you, but they can still be just as stressful as the problems surrounding not having money. i can assure you that.

having money doesn't even begin to buy true happiness that's for sure. some of the happiest times of my life have been when I was the poorest (on paper) that I've ever been. achieving true happiness is on a much greater level than accumulating material wealth.

Then maybe money isn't happiness but the experiences you get from having money can be. I mean it costs a good bit to own a decent pair of skis, ski often, and ski somewhere good. And doesn't that make one happy?

Having a lot of money would take out the stress and uncertainty in life. That would make a lot of people in this world a lot more happy not having to worry, but if you had all this money you need people to share it with. I think that is where it becomes a problem, it's where people like you only because of your money and that is what makes people unhappy.

of course money buys happiness, but you can still be happy without it. like lets say i won the lotto 649 and bam, all of a sudden im like 100 million bucks richer, i would buy a mansion and have all my boys live with me and travel the world and do some crazy shit. i would also help ppl. i feel like if you have money and you're generous with it, then yes definitely you'll be happy, but if youre greedy with it, then youll end up sad and lonely and fucked up

There is a huge difference between pleasure and happiness, and until you realize that you will never have your answer.

Simply put, money can not by happiness in any way. However money was made to achieve many different levels of pleasure.

to have the amount of money to be able to pay for your food, living expenses and basic entertainment is really need money wise and makes your life happier because your not as stressed out as you would be trying to find food or a home for your family

i just today got dumped by my girlfriend of two years and a best friend of even longer, and honestly money may give you everything you want, but love in my opinion money only buys objects, it will give you attention too but not true love dead serious no hate please.

I ski bummed right after high school and the most stressed I've ever been is when I was laid off from my ski resort job and didn't have a summer job. basically didn't work at all for almost two months and had to get loans from my roommate who had a solid job to pay the bills. luckily I ended up with a well-paying job end of May and could repay my roommate and pay the rent the rest of the summer.

I was still happy cause I was just getting into mtn biking and rode all the time and lived in an amazing place with good friends, but there were those times throughout the day where I'd get stressed out all of a sudden knowing that I was on the brink of being totally broke, which isn't too bad cause I felt Icould subsist, but I didn't want to build any debt. So yeah, having enough money is pretty nice, not necessarily exuberant amounts are necessary to make you happy. It's more of the lifestyle you're after.

Of course, if I'm 30 and making the amount of money I'm making now, I'll feel pretty unfulfilled. Granted I'm not really trying hard enough cause I don't really need to atm.

my family has some friends that are pretty rich (they own a ferrari) and they dont seem all that happy because the get super stressed over the thought of losing it all.

If you're still referring to my post, I never said I define myself by my possessions. I simply said that having money and nice things makes me happy. It's not the only thing that makes me happy.

Yes money does make me happy.

Living somewhere, eating, doing fun stuff that makes you happy, all costs money. For example, without it I couldn't go shred, enjoy traveling places, and all kinds of other shit that gets me stoked.
