So chatting with Balto has lead me to believe that what i can do is not such an every day thing.
Backstory. My dad is an artist. Teaches jewelry, metalsmithing, photography, and drawing at a local college. When he first started, in his spare time he would make bronze sculptures. Started out with bats and frogs and other things like that. He sold those sculptures at his friend's small store in NYC. One day, he got called by the Natural History Museum there in New York City; they wanted him to construct scale sculptures of some dinosaurs and he agreed.
That brings us to today. Once he did that, he didn't stop. He's made a shit ton of different species and they're all baller as fuck. Examples:
To this day, they are the most exact models on the market. How does he do it? Well that's a whole other story involving lots of roadkill. Let's get into that later.
So here's where I come in. A few years back I learned how to produce these sculptures and now I can turn a velociraptor out in about an hour. I'm a fucking artist, bitches. That's enough of me for now. Onto the good part.
a year or two back his friend came to him about assembling a real fossil skeleton for him. The dinosaur is called psittacosaurus. He build a frame, repaired vertebrate and other parts, and assembled it all and it looks badass. I don't currently have pictures but I'll certainly get some. He's done 2 more since then, and is working on another now. In about a month we go to deliver that skeleton in MA and then bring two more back. I think these might be raptors. I've been watching the assembly now from day one on each of the dinosaurs and my dad wants me to assemble the second raptor myself. Holy shit I'm going to be fucking famous.
Well that's my story. When the next 2 skeletons come in, I'll be sure to document the entire process so you guys can see it all, and atm I'm working on putting together a small edit of what goes into creating a bronze sculpture that I'll post here! That's all for now!
