Slopestyle in the Olympics

Sounds like its gonna happen!! Bunch of people posting on twitter about it. If snowboarding has it, im pretty sure that means skiing with have it? This could be a big step.

Wonder how many people per team.  We had 4 in moguls, 4 in aerials, and 2 in skier cross in 2010. But most other countries had less.

Well based on the fact that the only event in the olympics similar to skiing pipe or slope prior to today is snowboard halfpipe which has the standard air rule it isn't unreasonable to think something similar might be done in skiing pipe or slope.  And yes its going to be similar to the X-Games in that it will become the biggest contest of the year, but it will indeed be very different.  The market that watches the Olympics and culture that surrounds them is very differnt than that of the X-games.  This will create a new interest in our sport by many people and companies.  For example Jonny Moseley Hosted SNL and was on other late night snows and talk shows for winning the olympics.  He even has a video game named after him and hosted shows on MTV.  The business side of things is completely different between the two events.

Finally peoples that are outside the free-ski industry are going to understand what my sport is... I hate when I have to explain to older peoples that never saw a pair of twin tip, a snowpark or even a ski hill what freeskiing is. So in general stoked for the visibility of the sport.

But can't wait to see how judging will be, prbly can't be worst then X-Games.
And can't wait to see drug test aswell ahahah

its all gonna be fine. skiing will just be a little more divided. people who want to keep it real and FREE ski, will keep doing that, and people who want to get into the competition scene will do that.

I chuckled to myself haha I think the most interesting part of this will be seeing who goes for this.  I wonder if the B Dogs and Henriks who are so opposed to mainstream will even make a go at it, and of course also if they will pass a drug test

Woah slow down! They could easily leave skiing out of this for 2014 which would be dumb, but completely possible. They could just have snowboarding only slopestyle. They did it with pipe, snowboard only pipe until now..

I'm stoked that they are at least bringing snowboard slopestyle on though. Hopefully they don't make skiing wait till 2018 or beyond.

The IOC page has been updated and specifies that "ski slopestyle" will be included in the 2014 games.

This is pretty damn cool I think.

At the end of the day freeskiing is about having fun, if this is going to encourage elitism and maybe even drug use then it could damage the sense of freedom that it gives you.

The prestige of the olympics will undoubtedly add much more pressure to the competitors, but I'm really hoping that all the athletes stay true to their personalities and the sport, and smile to the cameras, give high fives to their competitors and all of that good stuff that we all love about freestyle skiing. If the whole world is watching pipe and slopestyle for the first time, we should make an impression as a really tight community doing something that we all love, not some douchy competitors who don't care about anything but a gold medal.

no you incredibly stupid kids. b-dog was referring to how HE sees skiing which doesn't make him against competing. it's the opposite because he's a real skier and knows that no matter what happens to competitions, it has NO effect on how he sees the sport. luckily our sport is big enough that there's enough people to push all aspects of skiing regardless if one becomes more lucrative than the other, you stupid jackasses. be a real skier and be stoked for your other fellow skiers who know have a chance to earn more money.

and comparing fruit boarding to skiing is just confirming how fucking stupid you are.

I totally agree!! The inclusion into the Olympics gives slopestyle the credit and attention it deserves. I just don't want to see the Freestyle Culture and personality of the riders change. It's community like no other, and I don't want to see it turn into something phony, or being forced to conform to something it's not ment to be. If that makes sense :)

This will split the sport in my opinion, i just saw a video of a guy from finland where he is talking about how they will have to do quads -___- there is already acrobatical skiing, im not saying olympics are bad, but they will have to make sure to keep the real freestyle intact (the style)
skiing is about the freedom, when skiiers started to ski, their goal wasnt to get a piece of metal with a one on it, it was way more then that, a feeling. to feel like no one else could.

I hope skiing will stay as beautiful as it is, im still happy there is olympics for freestyle cause now my teachers will let me alone with all their school requirements.

SO HERES AN IDEA:

Can an American athlete who is not good enough to make the US team (or any country for that matter)  go to a nearby country that has no freeskiers (for example: mexico)  and get a citizenship so they can go to the olympics?
not a bad idea IMO.      anyone know the official rules?   i dont want to look it up right now
