Buying a new whip this week

Jetta TDI, Lancer GTS, or Mazda 3 hatch.

Looking for an everyday car to join the family. As of now I have an all black 08' A6, 10' Storm trooper chevy avalanche, and an 05 Nissan altima. I will probably be getting rid of the Nissan since it is my everyday car and is about to hit the 90k mark.

I have heard a lot about the TDI and it has all been good. I love the GTS, and for some reason love the Mazda even though Mazda may have the ugliest Logo every besides first drop.

What are peoples experiences with lancers? Jettas/diesels? or Mazdas?

The car will pretty much remain stock besides new rims/tint/and will probably lower the lancer or Mazda an inch or two.

All three drove real well, that's why I'm here. I cant decide for myself because in my mind i cant go wrong either way.

love the mazda 3 hatchback. i would get that in black, black out the rims, do some tint. that thing will look so dope with a tiny bit of work

I've heard nothing but good about the tdi's and mazda 3's. Both are great cars. I haven't heard much about the lancers.

tdi- with proper maintence they last forever- there was a guy at h2o this year with a jetta tdi- 335,000 miles and he was running 285 whp and 390 ft lb tq

My friend has a lancer. Wasn't to fast but had decent room in it for a smaller car. Pretty decent gas i believe too

I would fucking love a jetta tdi sportwagon. Gonna get one a little while after I'm done uni, need a fast car first but it's definitely gonna be in my garage eventually. My dad has a 91 jetta turbodiesel with 350k's on it, gets like 800k's a tank.

TDI obviously, getting anything else for a daily driver would just be foolish. unless you don't like getting amazing gas milage, then get one of the other cars

tdi's have problems with every generation. I can list off all problems if you like. Im not here to rain on everybodies parade about tdi's, im just saying there is some glaring engineering problems with those motors since mk4.

TDI gets amazing mileage and they will last long, but they can be expensive for maintenance..

my gf drives an 2006 jetta tdi with a manual transimision.
 and holy fuck do i love that car. it has great power, the gearbox is butter and its fun as hell drive. yes the cost of ownership is higher then the other cars you mentioned but if you own an audi you know what your getting into. the mazda three is also a good car. but the tdi has more balls  hell you rarelly even have to downshift to pass anyone even going uphill. and the gas mileage it gets is retarted. it gets my vote.

i would say go mazda3 hatch. my buddy has this one and you can make it really quick and sound good with just a cold air intake on it

when treated properly, they wont need much maintenance. mine is super great but its getting old and rusted out. my mother has a 09 and its the best car ive ever driven(except my buddys mustang gt) but yah its really nice.

dont get me wrong. Tdi motor is a good motor but if you are on somewhat of a budget, skip this car. mk4 ALH motors last forever but need to have the intake system removed and physically scraped and cleaned to clean carbon every 2 years or so, The mk 5 motors have major cylinder head wearing issues on the exhaust cams and lifters, the cost of a reman head for us is roughly 5k just for the parts. Mk5 tdi DSG transmission equipped cars chew through flywheels every 80k km. mk5 jettas all need egr cooler replaced around 100k km aswell. rear wheel bearings are very suspect on mk5 vws as well. ive seen many issues with tdi turbos for every generation aswell. Even if you pay for an inspection on a tdi, depends on the tech... but they might miss the common issues. If you dont mind paying a premium for parts and service, a TDI is a decent car but beware, sometimes the major repairs just have a habit of just suddenly appearing without warning.

yes, and 3 house, investment bank did me good but as many I'm burnt out and moved on to bigger and better now, I'm 23 and have more money to deal with

Mazda's are light as hell and if you ever get in an accident they'll get fucked up. My brother's 08 mazda 3 got hit going 20mph and it need a new hood new and new bumper along with headlights. Just keep that in mind when you decide

keep in mind that mazda 3's at launch had many major engine failures that needed replacement engines within a year of ownership, my friend had this happen to his brand new off the lot mazda 3 in less than 3 months. Mazda is also bordering on Ford in disguise. Just keep that in mind when you decide.

advise her to sell before warranty expires, just FYI. The particle filter and exhaust system in that car is grossly expensive and has a expected life of 130k km. We priced out a replacement for a fellow about a year ago with labour and parts, it was close to 9000 dollar replacement. Food for thought.
