Stretched ears?

i never seem to see anybody out on the slopes with stretched lobes. am i the only one?

I have to ask and there is no hate up in this seriously I am just curious. But do you guys think about like what you're going to have to do when you get a job? Like will you just let your holy lobes hang? Will you get them sewn up and have oddly shaped ears? Or will you actually keep your gauged ears until you're 85?

i try not to think to long term, but to be honest if its the kinda job where i couldnt get it cuz of those i dont really want that job, i guess its a good thing im going into music

if you're lucky you can take them out and they'll just shrink right up in time. i've seen 3/4 of an inch shrink up within a couple weeks.

as for getting a job, its no different than having a tattoo somewhere where it can be seen. hundreds of people gauge their ears and get tattoos and still lead good lives. its a common misconception that you become a social outcast the second you change your body a lil bit.

it's a common misconception that stretched ears won't heal. sewing them up is a good option, but if you stretch them taking your time and you're smart about it, they'll close up. my friend went though harvard law school with one inch lobes, and she closed them up once she joined a firm. they closed up in a couple of months. adversely, my friend had two inch lobes and one of them got ripped in a mosh pit. he balled up and cut them off with scissors. it was brutal, but hey you do what you gotta do.

also, getting a job with stretched ears is easy. generally speaking, if you've got body mods, you're into body mods. piercers/tattoo artists make bank depending on where they are and the shop they work in. a full time piercer who's an APP member, especially in a small state where there's only a handful of APP members can make upwards of 75k a year. there's only one APP certified piercer in connecticut, and people come from all over the state for his work because it's the highest certification you can get in piercing.

also, when i'm ninety five and wrinkly, my ears will like double in size and i'll be the coolest motherfucker in the nursing home. jusssayin'.

when i was in private school, a kid ran up to me and did that. i beat the fuck out of him. but i've done it on my own before, however it's not a good idea because it weighs down your ears a lot and if you leave them in it'll make your lobes mishapen. but i've had all kinds of shit in my ears. when they were really little i put candy canes in them around christmas time.

If I was a cop and I arrested someone with gauged ears (And lets face it, everyone with gauged ears gets arrested pretty regularly.), I would totally go hand cuff from left hand to right ear, and vice versa.

But to paraphrase Daniel Tosh, I dont think gauged ears will really matter when your 75, do you really think anyone with gauged ears will live to 75?




But for real, I don't care, whatever lifts your luggage.


Seems like they'd get annoying when you sleep though.

no need to hate. i've been stretching my ears for over a year now and i've never been arrested, stretched ears or not. in fact, i know more people with no holes who have been arrested than with. it's people with your kind of mindset who are the reason that body mods aren't accepted. having stretched ears doesn't make you a shitty person, being a shitty person makes you a shitty person. plus, generally speaking, people with body mods are by default at least a little bit open minded, and most are really really nice people.

small stretchers arent bad but anything noticeably bigger, is disgusting. i have some friends with small stretchers and they are kinda cool but i would never do it. also having stretchers is worse than having a tattoo even if the tattoo is permanent. its because since your ears are right beside your face, its something you see all the time. if you have a tattoo on your wrist, arm, leg, wherever, its definitely not as noticeable as stretchers. (im talking about job professionality/first impression wise)

seriously maybe 80% of north america does not give a fuck about body mods. people in office buildings have tats you just don't see them. just don't drastically fuck yourself up to the extent of looking like a circus side show and you'll never have a problem. most of the people who are modded know this is apart of their life, and i'm willing to bet 5% of the worlds population's jobs will be affected by their piercings or tattoos. only closed minded people care. it's officially ingrained in culture and i think it's time to get over it...as if it were some big deal. it's not. people with heavy mods do jobs that are generally apart of that culture, and those who are just heavily tattooed can be anything from a carpenter to a new york lawyer. big deal. you wanna work for the hugest law firm in north america, yeah, don't get your ears pierced. but really. it's not as if there's no jobs opened to people with stretched lobes. come the FUCK on.

so youre saying you would hire this guy if you owned a business, (not dealing with tattoos, piercings, etc.) im just saying most people pick out whats noticeable in the first 5 seconds you meet someone. it may not be intentional but you just do it. most companies hire people as representives of the company. sure this guy would be great for an ear gauge company, but anything else.. not so much.

like i said, people like that probably work in the industry. and it's not like having gauges make you that person. there's opportunity out there, and it doesn't matter. and it really depends on what job you want to do. if someone's qualified and they look like what you represent then what's the problem? frankly i get the most compliments on my mods from people who are 45+. i also get the most dirty looks from people who are 75+. point is. it doesn't technically matter. if you want to act in a renaissance film, then yeah it's a problem. it depends, but most people who want to mod their body aren't going to be expecting the doors to open for them. they know what they're doing and gave it thought. i didn't think i would gauge to the size my ears are now, but i did, and i did it as i got older. and i also accepted that should i ever need to sew them up i would be financially stable enough to drop 5 grand on it. yeah shit happens, but planning for the future is only being a responsible person. that guy is another story. and if i worked in a tat parlour, i'd give him a job. or if he wanted to wash dishes or something. or if i worked in a urban bar he could bartend or wait tables, or he could install my fucking curtains. it doesn't matter. what is his job, and is he qualified to do it? just because someone looks classy, doesn't mean their classy.

I dont think its a misconception, A lot of people still look down on that stuff. Not employers, just old people and shit. I have a couple tattoos that can be seen if I wear a t-shirt and at work sometimes old people haggle me for it. I just want to tell them it looks better than the old wrinkly ass skin drooping of their face lol

There's also the idea that some people don't like the way they look, which definately can effect getting a job.
I had problems with my stretched ears when I wanted waitressing jobs and things, because they want you to look smart, and if customers find them disgusting (which a lot of people do) then it can effect your job.

looking average doesn't certify you a job anymore than looking unconventional or freakish. it's all about the domain you want to work in. and there's nothing wrong with owning a shop or working a trade. some of these people make money off looking like freaks, and others just live normal lives like everyone else. making coin and trying to find love and happiness. just because you have mods, doesn't mean your paycheck will suck. i think this was much more applicable 10 years ago as a discussion, but nowadays, everyone knows someone who has a tattoo or piercings, or knows someone who knows someone with a split tongue. the amount of people who've gotten work done has increased tremendously, and if there's not an average job out there to work or serve average people looking like he does, then there's a shit ton of tattooed and pierced people who'll open the door to him. it's more common than people think.

what about having body mods means that you're going to have a shorter life than someone who doesn't have them? there are no physical or biological downsides to having stretched ears if you do it right and don't go too fast or skip sizes. they're much safer than tattoos for obvious reasons. having stretched ears doesn't impact your health, nor how good of shape you're in. i have stretched ears and i run just about every day, lift weights, ski/snowboard, skateboard, mountain bike... i'm in terrific shape. i don't get in any particularly high amounts of trouble, and the trouble i do get in has nothing to do with my ears. i'm a very calm, able minded, mature person. and i happen to have stretched ears.
