Cool read and awesome what they did.

Those shots are outrageous. Zoomed all the way out I can't even see the black dot that used to be a human!

Looks awesome but I'll bet it takes a pretty burly/expensive tripod for it to even be usable.

if you can afford that lens i doubt you have to worry about the price of the tripod

A functional tripod for a 768mm focal length will likely run $3,500+

So if a person has $4,500 to spend on a lens, then they automatically have an additional ~80% of that to spend on a tripod? Doesn't make much sense to me, but then gain math was never my forte.

based on the post, the tripod they use with it is generally a 1800 dollar setup - seems like they would need more to prevent shake at that focal length, pretty crazy.

That video in their post was not too fluid. But I guess at 768mm nothing is fluid unless motorized. But honestly up to this point I thought TGR shot from a stationary helicopter

I can see that being very finicky, i guess if you made a nice track for it and went slow, itd be decently stable.

I've done this before; it's just a Manfrotto magic arm + super clamp.

If you build a channel so that theres no lateral movement, it works quite well, but only for wide shots since telephoto dollies require a much more stable contraption.
