Campus Rail Jam Finals + Khai Krepela

Today was a good day, for I was able to witness some insane skiing and a total selfless act, all in the same afternoon.

Khai killed it today. Even though he was frustrated by his first round performance, he made it to finals, got back on his game and absolutely slayed the last round. For that, he placed on the podium, which is congratulations worth itself.

What deems a thread though was what happened after. When another competitor didnt make the podium, a ripple of surprise went through the crowd. Khai went right up to the guy and split his share of prize money he just won with him. Not many people would have thought to do that, and fewer without a moment of hesitation. Khai, what I saw today was one of the more impressive things I've personally witnessed in skiing, to date. I really hope you continue your skiing career and wish you all the best, our sport needs more people like you.

Saw this happen. I saw the finals and saw everyone throw down including Khai and the kid who Khai split the money with stomping a final hit rodeo 5. So many guys (and gals) through down and killed it today!

Why? If Khai (never heard of him btw) won fair and square, why would he share his prize money? If the guy was about to be evicted, or was dying to a lack of much needed drugs, or was an ambassador for a charity, then that is right and admirable. But if he just gave it away for the sake of giving it away, or because he felt sorry for him, that's nonsense.

I give away my prizes all the time, I dont win much but the wax and headphones and shit I give out to people who I think kill it just as hard or push themselves to the limit to win. it's more of a respect thing, I dotn know if I would give up money though. Maybe he is rich as shit and doesnt need it...idk lol

Agreed. I'm sure it was a nice gesture and it's his decision, but I don't see any point in that. Doesn't the winner often split the purse a bit in the bars afterwards anyway?

Like I said, nice gesture - his win, his decision, but it's not the like the situation required amicability, it's a competition for goodness' sake. In a case like this everyone should have come along for the ride and split the pot with the top 5 fairly or something.

It's not necessarily a good thing. If he gave it away to charity, or to someone who needs it, then yes, that is a good thing. If he gives it away for no good reason, other than the other guy not being as good as him, that's silly.

I'd like to see someone do that in a large competition, though. Like winning Olympic pipe Gold, then go all out and say you didn't deserve it and the judging sucked, that would be such a slap in the face for the whole system.

He's not giving away the money because he saw the other guy crying and felt bad. Its because he legitimately thought the other person out performed him. He didn't feel justified in taking the prize when he felt someone else was more deserving of it.

I dont know what we're arguing about, but can we please not do it in this thread. And no names besides Khai's need to be mentioned, I have much respect for the event and the judges. As I said, it was just cool to see, and I have a lot of respect for Khai.

BOOM, when this kid lights up and starts getting fame in the next few years, which he will. I would love to see him being a baller like this with a big name. As much as I love henrick and B-Dog but when people see them on the mountain they just say what the fuck is wrong with this sport (no hate but you know it is true from an outside perspective.) but when an outsider sees Khai giving out respect to fellow competitors, it really gives us a good name...which is kinda what we need for freestyle skiing to really reach the next few landmarks.
So stop your bitchin and be stoked on this kid and watch this kid fulfill all of the dreams what we have/had.

Im not gonna argue and i didnt quote you. Khai probably made that kids day when he thought he was gonna come out with nothing. Did he have to do it no, but he was simply being a good guy. Why someone would question his decision suprises me. Sorry for that.

VIDEO!?!?!?!? ive heard about  these campus rail jams all year, people getting screwed over...but ive never seen any video, if this was a finals we better see some good footy to decide on our own what the deal is.

i have respect for khai, because there is not enough love and support in our sport. from pro skiers to the big ski industry, its always political bullshit and if riders chose the winner of a jam like in snowboarding, we wouldnt have to rely on politics and judges rigging amateur railjams... if we controlled our own sport, NS skiing would be amazing...

Khai and the other guy both threw down. Khai was awarded the win, but he felt like the other guy got royally, totally fucked with the judging. He had so much respect for the skiing he split the money.

It wasn't because he felt bad that someone else lost, it was that he felt like the judging was terrible and the other rider deserved some of the money he won because of it.

Khai is the man! doing something like that speaks volumes about him, and knowing him he definitely is a great kid, I dont know how anyone couldnt be stoked on what he did.

also, khai absolutely kills it. serious talent, be on the look for him in the near future.
