The thing that struck me when it happened here was how quickly everyone stops giving a fuck about their stuff and drops everything to help. In this case though, it must be just so overwhelming- like who do you help first? Where do you go and what do you even do???
I mean, going door to door and checking for people is just the start, and where do you even begin? People must be trapped everywhere. Do you start close to home or try to get across town to help the people you know? That pic of the guys trying to pry that car open brought that all right back. Not knowing is fucking so unbelievably overwhelming, and often you can't get to where you want to be anyways. Around here there were a ton of really big trees and it made travel literally impossible- and what was worse is that it happened while everyone was at work, and it literally split the city in half- you want to talk about desperate people, see someone whose kids were home and in the path stuck in unavoidable bottlenecks. There were literally shootings people were so panicked and angry. Cars were abandoned everywhere and people just hoofed it over/through whole neighborhoods of downed trees and rubble to get home. Screaming to neighbors and friends, trying desperately to find people... Intensity doesn't even begin to describe that shit... And that was nothing compared to this. Goddam.
Fuckin crazy shit man.
