Just a shoutout to a good group of guys making a pretty cool product. I forget how I ran across them first, but after I discovered they made sunglasses out of bamboo, it was a must. I get a set of Buds and a set of Birds, thought people might want to see what they look like and get a quick review done.
Birds: Your classic Wayfarer style. Got mine with the gold lens, its not a high-reflective Oakley style mirror lens, but its not at all bad looking.
And yes, the bags are included, very nice!
The Birds fit my huge head alright, but I should say its hard for me to find sunglasses that fit well anyways given the size of my conker. The frames are not just rough cut either, they're smooth, arcing, and even have very well sculpted bridges to rest comfortably on your nose.
Pretty classy glassey
Buds: Thinner frames than the Birds, and a bit more narrow. These have the polarized lens.
These make me want to start a trucking business
I should point out to that the frames have some beautiful and fine carvings done to them, "Proof" on the outside of each arm, then the model and a little saying on the inside. The writing is absolutely minuscule but perfect, I have no idea how they cut it, must use a tiny tiny router bit or something.
The saying on the Buds - "Be you Not them"
So, wrap up. These are very cool, different shades. Drawbacks to bamboo over plastic? Fragile, I guess, but not more than a set of Oakleys I suppose. They're light, thats for sure, everyone whos picked them up notices that.
Craftsmanship, 10/10, they're pretty.
Design and fit, 9/10, I wish the frames had a little more of an arc, but thats just a style thing. The Birds definitely would fit someone whos into the square frame look VERY well (think graphic design or industrial design major), but the Buds seem to fit me and my style a bit better.
Value... up to you I guess. At $130 a pop, they're equivalent in price to a lot of bigger brands out there, but with Proof you get the lens and frame material of your choice. Again, lenses are kinda simple compared to the high reflective mirrors and other options other companies offer, but I think their lens options are just fine for my needs.
Overall, 9/10, pretty slick. Durability is the only other question, might bump this in a few months and report in on how they've done. If you want some cool sunglasses for this summer though... check them out.
