Who hear road bikes?

I need some new shoes and the bike place around me blow, Ive already been to a few.

I have a wide ass foot and newe a shoe to fit that, also how shoukld the shoes fir compared to a street shoe/ski boot?

sidi genius, great shoe for a wider foot, and either some time ATAC pedals (mountain pedal, but awesome), or speedplays.

I really like the clip-ins I have now. except I have a 10-10.5 street shoe and got a size 27.5 shoe, same as my boot size. I feel like the shoes are a size too small and are too narrow, I heard specalized make a nice shoe in a wider foot. I've don't tri's but have decided to get into bike races and more tri's/iron mans and comfort for my feet come first

my dad does tris and iron mans alot has the same problem as you having a wide foot he has some specialized shoes and there the most comfortable shoe hes had for road biking yet in 15 years so thats a pretty good option

Specialized (Sport, Expert, Pro Road) makes super awesome shoes- I've sold them to everyone with a narrow foot and wide. If they are too narrow still, check out a pair of Sidi Genius Megas.

How much are you willing to spend? I've been through many, including tri's, and if you are willing to spend the money (I think I spent about 200 on sale), then the Mavic Zxellium's are the most comfortable shoe I've ever worn, not to mention light as hell and pretty decent looking.

They also come in white. As for the fit, they shoe be relatively tight fitting, snug but not uncomfortable with the toes.

generally speaking, if your toes barely touch the front of the shoe you are in a good starting point. from there it's a lot of personal comfort/pressure threshold. And definitely make sure the shop installs your cleats properly- do not have them just throw them on. Have them do a neutral cleat install which will center the cleat (fore/aft) between your 1st and 5th metatarsals. If they don't know what you are talking about, go to a shop that specializes in bike fitting. If you are in the Albany NY area, find a Specialized or Serotta dealer.

Look into Sidis; yes, they are expensive, but it is a purchase you will never regret, and you can buy them "wide."

unrelated but this is the most recent road bike thread.

What do you guys think of this bike?

It has been coming up on a SAC site for 1400. Good deal? Good bike to start on? I have a single speed road/commuter bike that I love but I think I have reached its limitations.

If you're going on long rides it's more about comfort than anything else. Pick a price range and try on a few shoes, feel what works best for your foot. To be honest, unless you're a triathlete, the weight difference from one shoe to another is not material. My shoes are not expensive, but fit my feet better than the more expensive ones. It really is like ski boots, try a bunch on. They should be snug, obviously snugger than your street shoes but no pressure points and definitely no discomfort. Comparing the exact fit to your ski boot is tough because people have different preferences for both; ie my ski boots are fit a size down from what I would normally wear which would be really uncomfortable for me in a bike shoe.

If you want to go clipless/SPD, check out fiveten Minnaar's. They look like/act like street shoes, but have the spd mounts for clipless pedals. Pro Downhiller Gee Atherton rocks them for both DH and training on road bikes.

and how much are you looking to drop on a bike? important thing to remember is your groupo/component set is far more important than your frame in terms of the amount you should be spending.

and if i were you i'd look for a 6 year old (+/-) trek carbon frame. a madone 5.2 or a 5200. one of the best bangs for your buck.

used carbon is a bad idea, IMO. Carbon fatigues in a pretty short period, and you never know if the previous owner treated it poorly as far as loading/unloading, storage, etc, and all those things over a 6 year period could severely damage the frame.

Unless you're an absolute weight junky, then the only material to buy is steel.

you just have to know what you're looking for and be a little careful who you're buying it from. make sure you pay close attention to the problem areas. (where the triangle connects to the headset and bottom bracket and also the chainstays.)

i have a trek 5000 that is now 12 years old and it still rides like the day my dad first bought it. my dad has a 5200 that he's put over 55k miles on. (not even joking) and he just purchased a new orbea orca to take its place.

nice, I've been looking to get a parlee z5, but I can't afford it yet. I'm not ragging on carbon, I'm just saying it's probably a poor suggestion to someone to buy used as there are a lot of unsafe used carbon frames out there unless you do know what to look for, and sometimes the fractures and strain isn't even visible.

If you buy Sidi, you won't regret it, they last a life time. and never buy over the internet, always try them on first. Nobody has the same foot.

For that guy who was looking at getting a bike, make sure you get a good groupo, and if it's your first real road bike make sure to get the right fitment.

Get Specialized. They are the best shoe out there right now. And yes I can back up this statement. They have a stiff outsole, which was patented by Andy Pruitt, it provides the most support and power output in every stroke. Also they have 1.5 degree's of forefoot varus, in everyday terms that means they have support between your toes and your arch. Your feet are leaf springs and depress every time you take a step, so if your shoes can eliminate that you don't lose any power. You're welcome :) and I would suggest the Expert Road's. Full Carbon bottom outsole, with the Boa Rotary thingy for optimal fit.

I am going to have to disagree. Sidis are made for a thinner, more euro fit, not a wide fit at all. I would recommend the Specialized Pro shoe that comes in extra wide sizing.
