I dont think we will, and honestly, its the one country that I would seriously consider a threat to not only our nation but the world as a whole. Of all the fucked up maniacal leaders, North Korea, with Uzbekistan coming in a distant second.

I don't even know if Kim jung il is even alive. he had a stokre a few years back and well, he doesn't exactly look healthy. maybe it's a double. just wait, in like 40 years when he would be over 100 years old, we'll still be seeing him from time to time and everyone there will only further believe he's a god.

Messed up stuff. Unfortunately, these atrocities and ways of governing aren't going to change due to any kind of international sanctions, restrictions or scolding from the U.N. The people that run these countries are way too fucked up and power hungry to give a shit about any of that. It is going to take a violent revolution/uprising from within or another nation invading to put a stop to it.

It's very much not in North Korea's interest to start attacking other nations with nuclear weapons. It is very much in the United States interest to insure the failed state of Afghanistan does not fall back into the hands of the Taliban and become a nation harboring Al Qaeda. You think Kim is bad? Can you imagine if the Taliban (who are allowed by Pakistan to cross the borders as necessary) get a hold of a Pakistani nuclear platform? Pakistan is not stable at all, and their government does not hold the respect of the people. The idea that the nation could fall into disarray is not far fetched. If someone looking to make money (aka, everyone in that region) gets a hold of a weapon like that, how much will Al Qaeda pay for it? Or FARC? Or any maniac who wants to get some serious attention from the rest of the world?

The way i see it, so long as something dramatic-although inevitable-doesn't happen within the next ten years, and/or kim or um don't do something crazy like bomb the west coast of usa all of a sudden, there'll be no need to invade them, particularly if china won't help them out if they do attack or something.

Great point. That's why the fact that High Ranking Pakistani military leaders had to have known about Bin Laden being in Pakistan and may have actually helped to hide him, should be pretty much the scariest thing imaginable.

This to a certain degree. The things they do to there people are horrible. The world not just the US needs to help out, it shouldn't be the US's job to clean up the world. Which it seems has been our job for the past 40 years. Although our country hasn't done a very good job staying out of some situations we should have never gotten into, I am looking at you Iraq...

Ya, I feel like the debate on if the US should be world police is moot at this point because we have already proven that we suck ass at being world police. So maybe that was our job, but we got fired.

The best thing we can do to North Korea is star launching missiles full of iphones and internets right into the major cities.

Yes they do. That's why this is a diplomatic time bomb. You just have to hope that the Pakistani leaders figure out who was helping Bin Laden and lock them up. It seems like there are two opposing factions in Pakistan. There are the pro Al Qaeda's vs those that who are more concerned with Pakistan's place in the global community. Hopefully the latter will win out.

It stems from the fact that Pakistan is divided. Some are devoted to tradtion and tribal culture, while a small portion of the nation is devoted to the government of Pakistan. Under Pashtunwali, it's easy for Al Qaeda to hide essentially for as long as they need to. Our military works very closely with the Pakistan military, and they are very friendly and helpful to our guys. I feel like the lack of disclosure from Pakistan has stemmed from this internal conflict as traditional culture meets national interests.

As a member of my school's KCA(Korean Culture Association) and having just recently been part of a talk on N and S Korea I find this fascinating to see what other ns'ers think.  I've been to S.Korea three times.  I've never been to the DMZ but I know more about this than the avg. person.

North Korea could very well be building more political prison camps.  Should we(U.S) be concerned about this?  Yes! This is a clear indication of unrest from within N.Korea and as my High School history teacher said, "Korea will be reunited within your lifetime".  I bet this fires up groups like http://www.linkglobal.org/(Liberty in North Korea) because they support regime collapse and are directly involved with the transport of North Koreans into China.

I watched an interesting documentary about North Koreans trying to escape their country.  It's called http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jCIMLGG51MY .  I know we all have stereotypes about Korea, but many of them are not true.  I don't know if reunification is possible with recent attacks from North Korea on the South.

lets be real, we went in their to secure the oil reserves and make sure that oil rich region didnt destabalize.


but the humanitarian reasons that we went in their were as valid as they come. The difference between Iraq and other shitholes is that Iraq has economic importance to us.
