the art of flight isn't even in the same category with snowboard movies. its an action film.

ive seen every nipwitz episode, dont know what ski-fi is, and while i will agree that network was absolutely game changing, i still think snowboarding has us beat by a lot. skiing is on that path, but snowboarding still has bigger drops, bigger gaps, and more creative and innovative shit.

i won't argue with this at all. it's spot on.
but i do have to say something. if you look at skateboarding, then look at snowboarding, almost all of the game changing urban you see with snowboarding comes directly from their friends on wheels. anatomically, they are is very similar body positions while riding, so it's easier to bite their shit. then look at the equipment difference when you get to skis. we have a HUGE learning curve to overcome when it comes to trying to figure out how to make our bodies and equipment to do different things (in comparison to skating). but we are on the right path when it comes to finding trannies and looking at things in different ways, it will just take some time.

I still see it more as a personal preference. Granted I don't watch nearly any snowboard films (Forum's "Fuck That" or something was the last one I viewed from beginning to end back in 2007) but now we are beginning to see stuff that, much like clean triple corks, were unimaginable until recently, or done by Chris Turpin years ago and no one cared.
The argument often seems to lie on the versatility of rail tricks on a board over skis - presses, crooks, bonks, butters etc. Now that line has nearly completely faded into obscurity thanks to CASG, Nipz, Skifi, B&E and other rising, innovative stars.
For Ski-Fi episodes, search that on Vimeo, I'm not gonna post it in a snowboarding thread :)

happy hour is the much less celebrated, but equally good, in its own way, than the movie that came out the same year, robot food's afterbang (which someone posted a link too. you should all watch it). comparing those two is interesting. afterbang ushered in a new era of snowboard videos, and later ski videos. whereas happy hour can be viewed as the end of an era: where hijinks and bullshit filler used to be the norm. Happy hour was a perfect combination of super-progressive-top-notch riding and all the dumb shit that goes on edited together in an entertaining way. plus, it introduced some new riders who are now stalwarts in the industry. both seth huot and ikka backstrom had their first full parts after the credits. and it was two vhs tapes. its too bad nothing is really made like happy hour anymore. everything is too hifi, like the brainfarm movies, or too skater-wannabe, like videograss. no one blends the two.
