I've been mounting my own skis for several years now. Really fixes the need for instant gratification, haha.

Mounting ski's isn't that hard. If you got a jig it's SUPER easy even.

I wish I had an FKS jig. We have one at work, but it's awkward for me to just go grab it to use it cause it's in the rentals department and they don't like us taking it. Been trying to find someone who's crazy enough to sell one for years now, haha.

Look PX jig works for the toe but yeah, we've done a fair few FKS mounts here using paper jigs or the sticky plastic ones that come in the box...

I mounted mine with the plastic one. It works fine, just take your time and be careful.

question
if I mount some fks 140 for a 27.5 boot and uprage to max probably like 28.5 can I play with the heel piece to make it fit the new boot without remounting it ?

only if it's within 7mm~. the total range of adjustment of an FKS is around 15mm, but if it's mounted in the center of the range (which it should be) it'll only move about 7mm~ either way.
Don't let anyone tell you it's 20mm, even though rossi will tell you that, it's not.

so 15mm back ?
the sole length is around 312 on my boot and a 28.5 is probably around 318.
does that mean I can adjust the binding to the new boot without remounting it ? thanks

Why is an fks jig in te rentals department? Won't your shop tech mount them for free?

Well, our rentals is rentals/repair...so they do mounting, waxing, ect. like a basic ski shop. We thought it was odd and that they wouldn't need it too, so we stashed it in the terrain office, but they weren't fond of that, haha. I have several places I can get free mounts at...but honestly, I trust myself more and if I do it myself I can have them mounted whenever I want vs waiting for a tech to do it (plus, when it's a free mount, it's not usually top priority so it can take a couple days sometimes).

it sounds like you work at a weird shop man, and a mount doesnt take that long, most techs can do it in less then 30 minutes and thats being generous.

Don't work at a shop, I work at a Mountain. Through my work at that mountain I've made connections with shops where I can get some free work done on my skis and discounts/free stuff, but because I'm not paying, their paying customers get first priorities (which is completely understandable to me). I don't want to give them to the ski tech at the mountain, because he doesn't do many mounts so he's not as practiced as a shop tech is. If I worked at a shop, I'd probably be the tech...

ahhh that makes since, and I would just wait to have them mounted by someone using a jig. it is pretty much impossible to screw up, as you know, compared to the risk of free handing it.

No 15mm total so either 7mm forward or back. Since yours is only 6 apart it should fit

Yeah I waited for the tech in the shop I work at to mount my skis but took forever because of lots of customers so I just did it myself. Really easy after you get it down

saw this thread a while ago and wanted to post in it but now i have a better reason to post than ever. I got my new Volkl Steps.
So from the outside to inside, its 174 05/06 Rossi Scratch FS Sprayers, for dryslope with rossi 110s,
178 10/11 Line Blend recently remounted with Griffon Schizos, for pow and general mountain stuff
and then my new 179 12/13 Volkl Steps with Squires, for park

had my first session on my steps on friday, so poppy, nice amount of flex, such a light swing weight and im loving the symmetry and the speed of the race bases

Why's that? Is it because you have to drill bigger holes for the inserts? I would think it would raise the resale value because you can get more mounts out of a set of holes.

Unless you're only putting one set of inserts into a couple pairs of skis to rotate those bindings between skis. I could see your resale value going down if you have 916 holes and dynafit holes, but if you're using the inserts not for multiple bindings on one ski but multiple skis with one set of bindings because you're on a budget, it shouldn't be a problem. Whatever this is a stupid discussion let's get back to quiver stoke!
