Largest wave ever recorded was due to an earthquake and it measured 1740ft in height. It happend in 1958 on the southern coast of Alaska and killed 2 people.

The thing is that no one can really predict an earthquake. An earthquake can happen within the next 5 mins, or it can happen in 60 years. No one knows.

this is misleading. it was cause by a massive lanslide at the end of a fjord in alaska. it was only so tall because it was in such a skinny channel of water.

Just because we have affected the world on an alarmingly short-term scale in terms of atmosphere chemical composition does not in any way mean we have any affect on tectonic-scale global activity.

Trying to predict tectonic activity is just stupid. There is no way that in the past 40 years of generously rapid advancement in geologic understanding have we come to comprehend the timing and prediction of these events. Somebody was telling me tonight that there was something on CNN about how us here in the NW are "due" for some catastrophic tectonic event, because we complete the final corner of some square of catastrophic climactic or tectonic activity, or something like that..

Seriously... I think all this 2012 bullshit is going to people's heads. There is far too much hype, I think a lot of people just don't understand the facts behind the way that our planet works, or at least what we understand thus far..

I do think, on the other hand, that it is notable that there has been abnormally frequent intense tectonic activity in the past few years (China, Afghanistan, Haiti, Chile, New Zealand, Japan...) Whatever the cause, if there is one, is in the air I think. However, to think that somebody can try and predict the next one? Preposterous...

Making you just like everyone else.... I dont think anyone cares so much that some dude made a prediction, without all of the things you just mentioned, im guessing nobody would give this guy the time of day. But since those things did happen, people are willing to speculate on what he says. However frivolous it might or might not be. I personally think its fun to speculate, even if it is retarded. But I'm also not panicking because of it.

the supervolcano will go at some point, it's just that the window is so big between eruptions that it could happen tomorrow and could happen in 100 years

all he was saying is that we're nearing the end of like a 600,000 year cycle because the volcano recently hiccuped, which showed some form of activity but didn't actually raise the threat much

basically it's not something to be afraid of but it is there
