Looks like they're spraying water on it right now. US media overplaying shit and trying to ramp up the fear factor, and on the other hand you have the Japanese government and officials saying pretty much nothing.

False. The noble gas radiation you speak of is Radon is extremely dangerous. We breath in Radon which then decomposes in our lungs to Polonium with a half life of 3 or so minutes. Polonium then goes through an alpha decay to lead. Alpha decay is the most dangerous type of radiation when exposed directly to tissue and organs as it would be in your lungs.

The Japanese culture is very calm and collected. Though this whole ordeal people seem to just be calmly going along, doing what has to be done to survive and taking the whole thing in strides. Sure they have suffered a crippling blow, but you don't hear of they mass histeria, riots, etc that you would expect in other parts of the world. You see photos of people calmly lined up waiting their turn for supplies and shelter, walking miles and miles to check on loved ones and so many other stories of order and helpfulness.

In the case of the impending nuclear disaster, employees are simply doing their jobs for the greater good, and emergency workers have stepped in to help.
