i think it was easier to fight in ww2 when there was a visible cause for fighting

we're not in afghanistan shooting terrorists in the head left and right, we're over there scared off our asses getting ambushed by unknown groups of people. our soldiers don't even know who they're killing. they shoot someone who could be a civilian or could be al queda but instead of figuring out who they just killed they move on to the next one. so much of the fighting is long range and mixed up with civilian areas that it's not some heroic battle of good vs. evil.

from the outside the war seems just: we kill the terrorists who killed our people, but it turns out that our only lead in afghanistan is the fact that in the past the taliban have offered support and aid to al queda. we're wandering around a hostile country (look at what happened in the soviet invasion...they don't want foreigners there) not knowing who to kill and not knowing who to trust. it's about the worst thing i can imagine. instead of nazi-slaughter it's paranoid blind fire in rugged mountains

War is violent. Soldiers know what they are getting into when they sign their name. War is a fact of life. Face it, war isn't going to end one day and everybody will get along. Accept the fact that people are getting killed.

I am talking about afghanistan.. i dont know about you but when those towers went down I wanted to kill every member of al qaeda, and by the US putting them into hiding we ARE SAFER. My brother has served 3 tours in afghanistan/iraq and he is 100% in favor of the war in afghanistan, and said that there have been a ton of improvements in iraq. Well, I would partially agree with you on Afghanistan, they had to do something and they did, and there it is justified, and like you said the main problem is the execution and planning of their war plans there. My argument is directed at Iraq, which has been far more costly both financially and in terms of lives, and does not have a purpose, and even if it did, the initiative was lost, long... long ago.

the goal of military training is literally to dehumanize you. to break you down both physically and mentally so that you can be trained to go and kill people and follow orders without questioning a second of it. it's a necessary tactic for us to have a successful army. we don't want an army of people who think twice before they pull the trigger because in hostile situations with guns pointed at your face, hesitation=death. that's why in these modern wars with the civilian factor soldiers are having a much harder time with post traumatic stress.

a soldier could be sitting with a gun pointed at a woman in a burka walking towards his post. for all he knows she has an explosive vest underneath that burka. in order to be safe and protect himself and his platoon he needs to warn her to stop and then shoot that woman if she does not comply and act on the worst possible scenario. when he realizes that she's hiding nothing he is haunted for the rest of his life

if the military taught people not to act on the worst scenario and the woman did have a bomb under her burka, there goes the lives of several american soldiers. the dehumanization of military basic training is inhumane and brutal but it's a necessary step in having a successful army. the us military is not to blame rather the government and style of warfare for getting us into situations like this

You're the one that made the assumption that he teks the opinions of MSNBC and nobody else. You can't make an argument based off of an emotionally based, assumed truth. Plus, you said yourself that he should take soldier's first hand accounts of whats "ACTUALLY happening"? Isn't that EXACTLY what the video I posted is?

Whether the wars have made us "infedels" safer at home or not, we have only created more hostility with our presence and caused more death of innocent civillinas both at the hands of our military and their extremists (which we created in the first place). Rather than spending millions of dollars per day on killing people in a foreign country, we should spend it at home and abroad to help improve sustainability, education, and bringing people out of poverty.

As I mentioned above, the majority of the al qaeda that remains in power is fueled by anger and frustration from our drones killing their families, rather than being fueled by religious based extremism. Every bomb we drop, every shot fired, only creates more enemies, which spirals us into an endless war and perpetuating the hatred toward our country.

We have nothing to gain by our presence in the Middle East outside of private Corporate interest in the military industrial complex, the heroin trade, and oil/gas exploitation. Look into Halliburton's exclusive roll in Afghanistan in terms of pipelines and rebuilding rights and see what you find.

well afghanistan needs highways. most roads and tunnels are not functional at all because the government blew them up to prevent the soviets from advancing. when the soviets rebuilt the roads after taking control, the taliban blew them up to get the soviets out

afghanistan's roads are almost as bad as haiti's

have walked them and drove on them. lots of fucking speed bumps all over the place. very few paved roads. but easily very manageable. i wouldnt say they are the worst roads i have ever been on.

as for the airforce medic...bet he didnt do much of anything

as for what we are fighting for and what it means to me....i dont really care. i signed up to do a job. if it means i got to shoot a kid who has a grenade in hand, or a woman with a suicide vest so bet it, man with an rpg, a rocket team, mortar team. word...ill do that too. anything to make sure my boys get home and me too. i dont care what the fight is about at all. i have seen improvements in the area im at. ive walked the river beds, mountains, roads, orchards, and villages. I admit there are huge changes. i also know that the minute we pull out it will go back to shit.

i signed up for this job, i am going to give it 110 percent the whole way through because im not the person to quit and put my load on someones else shoulders. i knew what i was coming into.
