Season in Whitstler???

I am thinking about doing a season in whistler next year and i wanted to know a few things.

Is the park anywhere near as good as breck or keys?

is there a ridiculous amount of annoying australian retards?

does that effect the ability to have fun?

is it super expensive to get a place anywhere near the lifts?

I just really want to go somewhere with an insanely good park and some good skiing that is not in CO because i dont really like the super competitive intense jock scene around summit county. Does anybody have any other suggestions that arent mammoth or tahoe?

Im pretty keen on whistler but yea just not sure about the things i named above.

compared to australian resorts, i think the aussies at whistler are quite tame, don't let them give all aussies a bad rep!

Me and two friends are droppin out of University for a year and heading out to whis for the season. Anybody know when the best time is to show up to find jobs and a place to stay? And whats the best way to find roommates/open rooms, or available apartments/townhouses. Not really down for the staff accommodation (seen em when I went to coc, and there not that great). So far I've found stuff on craigslist and thats about it.

Really? I've heard that October is the best time to find jobs as thats when they all start up. Isn't whistler really dead between September and November? I don't really want to show up in the summer with nothing to do, when I can be making money rent free here in winnipeg. I was more planning late september/early october.

I'd also like to move out here for the winter and summer. I've been wanting to live here since I was a younging. Sickest mountain to ski on and the best bike park in the world.

Unfortunately I'm an American and getting a visa or residency isn't guaranteed. Luckily I have devised a flawless plan that you guys should all check out in nsg tomorrow morning west coast time.

And to the people talking about room mates earlier, I would definitely be down for that. I'm not going to know anybody when I first get there so that would be dope, and it would be sick to have some room mates that ski.

Usually a season in whistler turns into 3 or 4. the last 2 years have been absolutely unbelievable for snow. I cant believe nobody has mentioned the cakewalk backcountry access. a touring setup is instant access to 20X WB.

ive been to breck and key before, theyre really good for just park, but like other people said whist is not far behind at all in that department. I personally think whistler is the best all round resort anywhere. We get a ton of snow, and it actually sticks to the steeps unlike places in co, weve got more vertical drop than any resort in the us. Tons of backcountry exploring to do, if you can afford a pair of touring bindings, get them, it will be very worth it. Even better get a sled, pemberton has some of the best sled skiing anywhere. We definitely have one of the best spring parks, april/may is my favourite time of year for park. And we have glacier skiing in the summer. THeres shit to do here other than just skiing, biking skating, or whatever. Vancouver is only 2 hours away, weve got better night life than any resort in the us. Keith's is better than any american beer. We also have the bc bud, unlike the states. I live in alpine meadows which is like 5 mins out of the vil and pay 430 a month for my own room. And like the people above me said, I came out here planning on staying for just a year, and now im going into my 3rd year here, and i suspect there will be many more to follow as well.

yeh its pretty dead there till around Christmas time, but the lift queues were never really that big only at peak times! ill be heading out early november to try and get accomdation for this season! I stayed in staff last year and Building 7 is the place to be as its the nicest building, so try and ask to get in there if u can! Rent in staff accom goes from 350 to 550 depending on what you want!

Its a short bus ride, but its really not bad, you can bike to the vil in not much time too. When i moved here i really wanted to live right by the lift too , but its really not as big of a deal as youd think. I actually kind of prefer living out side of the vil, as alpine is just like a lot more chilled with more locals than tourists living there. And theres stuff like meadow park gym and nesters grocery store on the way there. I stayed in staff housing when i first moved here, i would advise against that.

I HAVE BEEN CHECKING CRAIGSLIST QUITE OFTEN BUT DO NOT REALLY KNOW HOW FAR THE DIFFERENT AREAS ARE FROM THE VILLAGE.

TO MY KNOWLEDGE THESE ARE THE CLOSEST:

-CREEKSIDE
-BAYSHORE
-NORDIC
-ALPINE MEADOWS

SO IF I STAY IN ANY OF THE PLACES I WILL BE A SHORT WALK OR BUS RIDE AWAY FROM THE GONDOLA CORRECT?

yes, blueberry and whistler cay heights are probably the closest to the actual vil/ whistler and blackcomb gondolas, and creekside has a gondola that goes up to whist.

Craigslist is your best bet.

Also, as mentioned, get away from the village, I have lived at both ends, bayshores was really good, because the bus's come along that road every half an hour during summer, but increase during winter, and a bus back from the village is every 15 minutes! the bus drops you closest to the gondola then any are can to. and you can buy a 6 month bus pass, and when you are finished, or leave, sell it on to a buddy.

i live a lil ways away from whis, go there a couple times a year, plan on movin there after hs, but the way i see it, the park isnt quite key/breck, but you still have all the gnar terrain you could ask for and then some, not to mention the rediculous amounts of pow all throughout the season, november right through till the end of april. there are a shitload of aussies, in my limited experence they are pretty chill and as we all know theres the hot aussie ladies. if you get a job with WB they hook you up with staff housing for 300/month and free seasons pass, and if im not mistaken discounted on-hill meals. i have a few older friends who've done it and they all dont have a single regret about it. seeing as thats what i plan on doing in another year or so i say do it!!
