Season in Whitstler???

I am thinking about doing a season in whistler next year and i wanted to know a few things.

Is the park anywhere near as good as breck or keys?

is there a ridiculous amount of annoying australian retards?

does that effect the ability to have fun?

is it super expensive to get a place anywhere near the lifts?

I just really want to go somewhere with an insanely good park and some good skiing that is not in CO because i dont really like the super competitive intense jock scene around summit county. Does anybody have any other suggestions that arent mammoth or tahoe?

Im pretty keen on whistler but yea just not sure about the things i named above.

I have never been at whisler for longer then 2 weeks but ive been many times, Lol There are lots of Aussies, The park is sick ( the Black park for big stuff) many rails in whistler and blackcomb park, And the village is super sick, Sorry for not much, your gonna have to wait for a local to check the thread.

Spend a season in Whistler and you won't regret it. It's definitely not cheap, but you get what you pay for.

yeah conrad, should do it.

the parks are fuckin top notch, well whistler park is insane, o well done, black park is big but they dont really care about there creations. park crew dont really maintain anything either. but still better than anything i've ever ridden.

the place is fucking full of some of our retarded brethren, australia day is horrid, just need to lock yourself indoors. many times you will be embarrased to be aussie.

and accom is pretty hexxy, and aussies get stooged coz they all hate us. start looking now for a place for next season and you could probably find something good.

so all in all, whis rules.

canadian beer isnt very good tho.

The parks are unreal and are maintained everyday. Probably the biggest jumps open to the public in the country.

Aussies are annoying as fuck but are easy enough to avoid. Accom is a little difficult but you can figure it out if you have half a brain.

Planning to go out west next year, but whistler is whistler. Many people, and expensive, nice vibe, great village and good ski. But  I think ill go to revelstoke or nelson b.c, im not a park guy at all.

Bcomb park= bomb, I've heard its as good as brecks. The biggest problem is the light is flat and hard to judge the jumps lots.

Lots of Aussies, but meh most are kinda cool.  Doesnt affect me.

I live in Van but most of my friends have pay around $700 a month for rent and are maybe 15 minutes from the lift.

You're asking if whistlers park is as good as breck or keystones?

Why the fuck are you asking about a park in whistler?  If you want to ski park stay/go to summit county, if you want to ski good snow and sweet terrain whistler wouldn't be my first choice.  If you want an all around good mountain with expensive living then whistler is it.

There park isn't as good because they actually have decent terrain @whistler, unlike summit where keystone and breck pride themselves on having an awesome park because they don't really have much else.........

I just finished up my season in whistler, I'll answer your questions to the best of my ability.

I rode with a guy from summit county in whistler, he said there parks better. But you have to ask yourself... does any park in the world compare to Breck/Keystone/Copper?

Black park has huge jumps that are without a doubt the best in Canada and top 5 in North America. The new 22 foot pipe was put in this year and is a lot of fun to ride, but it doesn't get groomed very often at all and was never "mint".

Whistlers park is long and drawn out, it has pretty good flow. Small to medium sized jumps and small to large jibs. Very creative features. My friend has ridden mammoth and whistler, he prefers whistler.

The park staff does a good job, but the groomers have fucked up the lips onto rails, especially in the early season. That said there is always something good to hit because the parks are so big.

Yes, they're everywhere. But you'll notice the people you usually see on the mountain everyday are Canadian. Aussies don't take skiing quite as seriously as we do. Aussies get a bad reputation because they're basically on vacation in a party town, but you'll see they're just like any other group of people.

Aussies like to party, they don't come to Canada to fuck shit up and ruin your good time. If anything their presence will increase your chances of having a good time any given night.

Yep, Whistler's a really really fucking expensive place to live. But, I would highly suggest working for the mountain and getting staff accommodation, it's the cheapest way to go besides cramming as many people as you can into a share house.

If you live at Glacier Park your rent is around $300, Brio is around $500. Both are within walking distance to the lifts. Working for the mountain also gets you a pass, which saves you around $1000 right off the bat. Not a bad deal.

while I may not entirely agree with everything you said, I do have to single this little comment out.

What the fuck beer were you drinking? Labatt sucks, Molson sucks, but honstly, Canada has some of the best beers money can buy.

the comment is as dumb as saying American beer sucks.

Only underage kids (who don't know any better), foreign people, or dumb ass's who drink Molson Canadian or Budweizer think that mass produced beer is any good.

Canadian beer is true. there are so many awesome micro breweries around Quebec that make some outstanding fine beer.

I just applied to Whistler 3 days ago online. Is there anything else i could do to improve my chances of getting a job there? how long should I wait to hear back?

Whistler is the best resort on the continent. It has everything.

Park is solid, and you can really bank on it in the spring; it snows a lot in the winter, way more than what you'll see in Summit Co.

Terrain is expansive and excellent.

Lots of fucking aussies though, but since most of them work...

Housing is expensive. Employee housing isn't too bad from my recollection price wise, but you ain't getting much.

If you're trying to work though and are from the states... that could be difficult.

Probably one of, if not the best, place to go ski for a year in the US or Canada.

Haha aussies. Its so funny how aussies in other countries are so fucken loud and arrogant it's fucked. I hitch home everyday here in Japan, and people always think im australian, when i say im a kiwi, theyre like "aaaaooooo New Zealand!!!" and theyre stoked, but they dislike aussies here too. haha shame aussie, world douches. nah some are sweet but alot are total douche bags. and theyre alot of them in whis but it doesnt ruin anything.

black park is amazing, easily as good as any park in summit county. check Westward and Tuesday's Dead edits. lots of australians is the truth. 3 of my friends are living out there this season and they are like a 5 min bus ride from the lifts (in Nordic) so not bad, not quite walkable though, the village itself is way to expensive rent-wise to make it a feasible ski bum option. I spent 2 weeks out there in january and it sure is expensive/crowded but there are lots of jobs available and lots of kids to chill/party with, the partying is awesome. weed is cheap, liqour is expensive. you need to work to find the good snow, but the terrain is expansive and amazing. all in all i'd say its a really fun place to spend a season, my friends have had an amazing time. find some good roommates and start househunting.

I won't go telling you how good the skiing is or all that all im gonna say is if you wanna do it you can't go there in November and expect to get a job and a house if you really wanna do it go there for the summer and find a solid place and job when its not as busy.

Im aussie and im quite ashamed at some of the aussies out here. But we're not all bad! The aussies that are longterm residents are cool, its the gap year aussies that suck balls (loud, annoying,arrogant). Please dont judge all of us by the actions of a few (too many)

Pow is easy to find if you ski in places that arent marked on the map. The park is amazing and the back country is ridiculous.

Sorry too threadjack, for people who live there which kind of job is the best? Restaurant or bar ( so you ski the morning till 4pm and work all the night) or a job at the mountain ? Restaurant you eat for free and working at the moutain = free pass and discount but you work in the day ( powder days).

Whistler park jumps are amazing. No idea about rails. Heard the park isn't as good as Breck's but i'm sure you can make the most out of it. They're big park has decent size jumps.

There are a shit tonne of stupid annoying Aussies that will annoy the shit out of you.
Being an Aussie yourself you will be tarnished with meeting a legit crew, ladies and new friends as the Canadians around there dislike us until you really get to know them.

If you have a friend from Whistler, know someone from there or someone that has friends from there see if you can get them to help you as being as Australian you can get ripped off price wise unless you know someone.

The jumps are amazing but you don't know about the rails? You can see right? But yea the rails are good, but tend to be less creative and well thought out than the major resorts in my opinion.

If you get an XL pass you'll have access to more than "decent" sized jumps.

I have no idea what a good rail is. Yeah they look cool but I don't know if they ride well.

As for the jumps yah they're sick,but when i was there the ones at Breck seemed bigger and better cut. Good but not amazing.

Park overview:

There's the whistler park, which has a lot of small jumps, 3 mediums spread out throughout the park, tons of rails, boxes and jib features. Lower down there's a reeeeaally sick 3 jump line, middle jump is definitely big enough for 9s if you take a bit of speed into it. The whis park is honestly one of my favorite parks that I've ever been to.

The blackcomb park has 2 sides, a smaller one with some medium sized jumps and some rails, boxes, and jibs, and 2 halfpipes at the very bottom. The other side has the really big features, some big rails and boxes, a cannon box at the bottom, and a lot of really big jumps. There's also a quarter pipe that you can hit at the bottom from either side. I don't like the smaller side of the black park but the bigger side looks ridiculously sick, although I've never actually skied it.

Compared to breck or keystone? Probably not as good, but the park is still amazing and if you want big jumps.... They're there.

Yeah I agree I will be turning 18 this september and I plan on moving there. I am a pipe skier. What time if the year does there pipe open? I'l probs be in Colorado for most of December so it doesn't need to open that early.

But can you give me sometips on when to go there, Is it hard to become and instructor or lifty? can you get into the bars easily if you're underage? (like is it strict that you need 3 pieces of ID or would one work?) how hard is it to get into staff housing?

That would be cool!

Easy to become an instructor but as the season come to a close your hours get cut significantly. Don't be a lifty, you're better than that.

Bars are strict, 2 pieces, sorry bro.

Staff housing is easy if early, but you don't wana go there if you don't have to. It's small, rank and my mates constantly bitch about the walk down the piste to get into town. The novelty does wear off.

im doin it now and its awesome the park is so fun and the black park jumps are best in canada for sure midweek pow days are llife changing if you have a car living in pemberton saves alot of rent money and if u come with a couple guys gas is nothing really and mad pros live here (pretty much neighbors with dave treadway and i heard sara burke and rory bushfield live on my street) and if ur gnarly theres all sorts of sled access back country minutes away but it makes it hard to party in the village

The park is pretty good its got a lot of stuff from half pipes to 40ft jumps.

Yes, there is a lot of aussy's but most of them arent tards

Yes, its Whistler but you get your moneys worth

and the lines arent to bad since the mountain spreads out depending on how much chairs are open usally the bottom chairs are the most filled, but the Terrain Park chair is mostly empty.

Definitely go to Whistler. The park is definitely amazing. Even if it's not quite as good as Breck's or Key's, I can guarantee you it's not too far behind. However, the terrain, snowfall amount, and size more than makes it SO much better than Summit County.

1. Lots of foreign people, I find that don't ruin your day except for on holidays, even long weekends a lot of american folk come down = long lines which wont matter if you're into big jumps in that case there is a chair after black park on blackcomb called "catskinner" that is never busy(blue park also leads here).

2. Parks are super good, the Whistler side is the best in my opinion(decent jumps and great jibs), and Blackcomb is good as well even though i don't enjoy it as much because the parks are usually crowded with kids.

3. I believe you could find an alright townhouse/apartment/condo in Creedside(There is a gondala that takes you up) and I don't think it's that expensive there. Even if you're willing to travel you could stay in Squamish(where I live), which is cheap and only 30 minutes away from the village

OVERALL- Whistler is great and worth moving to for a year
