Need help with boots (im not stupid, i know i should go to a bootfitter)

Alright heres the deal. I want to buy some comfortable boots for park and shreddin some pow and all mountain stuff. I dont want to go to a bootfitter yet because my foot isnt finished growing so its a lot of money for one season. i was planning on trying to get a used boot that is in pretty good condition. So, which boot do you think i would have the best chance with? i have a average width foot

This may sound dick-ish, but it isn't. Going to a bootfitter would tell you what size boot you should get now and what feels best, then go and find those boots on the internet

wait maybe i am just stupid and i was confused about what a bootfitter did..i can go to one and he will tell me a boot and a size for free and then i can search for that boot for cheap?

You can do this, but remember the shop that the bootfitter works at is a BUSINESS. When you go in, and ask for his advice then leave and spend money somewhere else the business is not benefiting from the hour or so that the bootfitter spent with you.

That's a huge dick move!

Luckily I was always able to weed out these kinds of customers before I got into a full bootfit.

Don't waste someone's time. If you do, you might find foreign objects in your boots sometime down the road.

going to a bootfitter will save you money in the long run because you can get set up in boots that will last you rather than just going through a pair of crappy used boots each year. any good bootfitter can always get a bit more room out of a boot through heat molding, footbeds, and shell stretching/grinding. I had the same pair of boots pretty much all through high school even though my feet grew a bit.

Bootfitters should be a skier's best friend because boots are the most important part of the setup. Who knows, maybe there will be something a year or two old at the shop that fits and is marked down. It's always worth checking. If you do insist on looking for used boots on your own, politely tell the bootfitter you just want to know your boot size so he doesn't waste his time trying different boots on you. If you want to actually try on boots and find what suits you perfectly, plan on buying them there or kick him a few bucks for their time. Bootfitters aren't a concierge to buying boots online. Trust me, I've never had a customer come back complaining that they spent too much on a boot. Every penny is well spent and totally worth it.

Honestly, if you're young and rapidly growing, shelling out several hundred dollars may just not be in your budget. I HIGHLY recommend going and getting it custom tailored, but if your on a small budget, go to your local ski shop and try on a bunch of different boots and pick the one you like the best. When you finally pick one, wear it for 40 minutes or so around the shop to make sure it really fits well. Not every young teenager is able to shell out $700 for boots every other year. Just my $.02

my brother did this. i felt terrible. tried on 5 pairs of snowboard boots, bought one, found a different, cheaper pair on the internet, bought it then returned the first pair to the shop. he even said to my mom, while the guy was working with him, "we can always buy them now, and return them later if we see something better online."

Rough your bro up a bit, that was a dick move to pull in the store. I'm glad you understand the 10 extra bucks or whatever you spend in store is because there is a live person there to help you.

Just go to a 2nd hand gear store and buy something used and cheap that feels half decent.

Then get something properly from a bootfitter later.

I prefer buying from a bootfitter because they will be your friends forever. When your feet feel good, you feel good. Bootfitters are the best. If the OP can do it, buy new or used from one, but if not, I was simply making a recommendations.
