I literally just finished reading Atlas Shrugged two hours ago. To be honest, the trailer isn't too flattering. I hope to god that this movie is not a bomb.

This looks STRAIGHT UP BADASS. I am stoked to see this. One of the best trailers I have seen in a while. I like how they are doing it in two parts.

They should make an Anthem movie too

I've been trying to get through that book for a few months now, its a pretty slow story. I'll definitely be seeing the movie, although I don't know how well the book will translate to screen.

This seems like a great shame. I really dislike it when they take an iconic book, and bastardize it in movie form. Atlas Shrugged has been called the second most influencial book of all time, after the Bible. I have a hard time believing this, as there are other religious texts out there that promote entire ideologies and ways of life. Still, the influence of Atlas Shrugged is and has been very widespread. I will most likely not see this movie, just as I have not seen Narnia.

I do agree that it is the second most influencial book for Americans, after the Bible. In years past, Ayn Rand was much more in vogue than today, and millions read her works and tried to live up to the standards and ideals they found contained in her words. This spawned the Ayn Rand society, which is an interesting clash of ideals, but that is another issue entirely.

I'd be curious to see how they get people to play the two-dimensional zombies that are Ayn Rand's characters. I kind of liked The Fountainhead, but Atlas Shrugged didn't really have any depth to it at all--she could have made a bit quicker black and white summation of the world without guising it as a novel.

im working on the fountainhead now so i cannot speak to that 100% yet. but being over half way done with it, that book is sooooooooooo one dimensional its not even funny. so Rourke doesnt conform to what others deem "right" the end so far.

but how do you claim there was no depth to the book? the way the characters developed from people unsure if their path of greed / rational self interest. to one of absolute certainty that "they are the ones that move the world"

My problem is that her main characters aren't even human, they're just emotionless ideologies incarnated in people she even describes in inhuman ways. I just found it too easy to become totally detached because her character development omits anything that would make you empathize with a person (yes, I know that is kind of the point).

And Roark was just as bad, I probably just liked The Fountainhead because I love architecture.

both the main characters deiced what makes them happy and GO for it, and dont let the world, and the looters or moochers get in the way.

i got to the end and asked. "who is john galt"? and who is hank reardon? (of our time)

i find it sort of funny how people like yourself who love the book and its message are forced to complain about hollywood turning it into mainstream shit when the message of the book is basically that wanton self interest is a moral and good thing. objectivism would surely justify some douchebag producer seeing it as a money making opportunity and destroying whatever creative value it had.
