SUMMIT COUNTY - A 21-year-old student at the University of Denver has died after he fell on some rocks at the Copper Mountain Ski Area last month.
The Summit County Coroner's Office says Joe Lubar fell on Jan. 25 above tree line at Copper Mountain. He was on a double black diamond run when he fell and suffered brain injuries.
He was taken first to a hospital in Summit County and then transferred to St. Anthony Central Hospital in Denver. He died early on Friday morning.
Lubar was a student at DU and was from Milwaukee, Wis.
WTMJ, 9NEWS' sister station in Milwaukee, reports that Lubar was part of a very prominent family. The school of business at the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee is named after the family. Several other buildings in downtown Milwaukee also have the Lubar name.
According to a statement from the Lubar family, the 21-year-old fell off a drop-off that was about 50 feet high. He had a fractured skull, a fractured right knee, a broken leg, a broken wrist, many facial fractures and lacerations to his liver and kidney.
