-- The price of a single-day lift ticket at Vail, Beaver Creek and Breckenridge ski resorts will break the $100 mark for the first time.

Single-day lift tickets for Vail and Beaver Creek between Dec. 26-31 will be $108, according to the Aspen Times. Tickets will be $102 from Dec. 17-25 and Jan. 1-14.

The newspaper reported that Breckenridge will charge a peak window rate of $104 during the holidays, while Keystone will charge $99

Aspen is already charging its highest price of the season, $99, according to the paper. The Aspen Skiing Company charged $96 for single-day lift tickets during the peak season last year.

get a season pass and quit complaining it pays off in three days there. but vail resorts do charge alot if they didnt where would all the tourists spend all of there money???

Funny thing is that if things continue as they are you won't be able to ski anywhere as Vail will own everything soon!  BTW, I beleive OnTheSnow.com is also owned by Vail.

Totally agree that we need for indies in the resort business.  Baker is an awesome holdout up here.

Epic Pass is like $600, Colorado pass is even less and you get 10 days at Vail and Beav.  Fucking deal of a lifetime.  A pass to mt baker is like $700.  Not that you can compare Baker to any vail resort but still.

There is totally a place for looking at value of a pass and yes the colorado passes kick the shit out of NW season pass prices.

Was just saying that once a ski conglomorate gets as big as vail the prices tend to reflect other things besides the quality of the skiing.  Vail is pretty open about wanting to change the most for their day passes to keep their exclusivity high.

i love skiing, i really do. but a handful of hours skiing for 100 bucks? literally the only time i would do that is a terrific pow day

VR offers probably the most valuable and cheapest season pass out there. If you're buying lift tickets, you're clearly a fucking moron that has no clue about anything.

my local mountain charges 50 for a day pass. it is 700 vertical, or so it claims. 3 lifts

Right, but these are people who are doing it for 4 days the whole year and the enjoyment of their vacation is largely based on apres ski and their resort package, not the quality of their skiing experience or the number of laps they get. You should thank them for bearing a greater proportion of the cost of running the place, so that your season pass can be cheaper.

Vail doesn't own onthesnow.com they are actually one of the least biased snow news sites.

Vail does own snow.com which is really really obvious.

Vail won't own everything cause they aren't allowed to. They technically aren't allowed to own all of A-Basin because it would be considered a Monopoly of Summit County.

Vail is amazing. Keystone is super rad. A-Basin is supposedly great in the spring... Breck... well, if you ski there, please stay there, but thanks for the occasional nightlife.

I think Aspen is about to cross the $100 mark as well.

FYI, it costs on average of 10,000 to 20,000 per acre to be covered by snow making. We have over 300acres of snow making.... We are closer to the 20,000 mark because its mostly steeper terrain and we need about 2 feet before we think to open a run. So... 6 million in snowmaking. That's just snow making. Need to come up with those cost some how. Currently the cost of a new chairlift is around 7 million dollars....

Yeah... Ski resorts are expensive.

if anything, vail's pricing mechanisms show tons of love to local rippers and in order to do so, they have to rape tourists slightly.

my heavenly pass was 4 bills and it goes to northstar and sierra too. and when i lived in CO but still skied heavenly at least 20 days a year, the epic pass covered six fucking resorts for 5-something i think. there is no better deal out there, and there's no arguing that vail takes care of its locals.

heavenly is $80 somthing for me. Season pass to Heavenly Northstar and Sierra at Tahoe was $312 I've skied about 15 times

Epic pass (season pass) pays it's self off in 4 to 5 days of skiing and you can ski in Northstar and Heavenly.Plus all the other vail resorts ya it pays it's self off.My older bro in college that's in texas comes back for christmas break and just get em an Epic Pass just how it pays it'self off.............

yeah i mean youre right, but im just saying, just cause some people don't get into skiing as seriosuly as us and only do it occasionally isnt a great reason to fuck them so bad on prices.

though i didnt know that the season pass was like 500. that's really sick and sort of proves your and bpalmer's point that they take care of their locals. and that if youre going for more than a few days you just get a pass

agreed. hence why it is the price it is, CO get's a lot of tourism for a reason... it's one of the most beautiful places on earth, regardless of amount of snow for skiing.

Smart tourists also have the option to buy their tickets online beforehand and if you do it for multiple days, the cost comes down considerably.
