School closed

so right now I live in washington DC and it started snowing around 10 today and within 20 minutes of it starting they tell us school is closing early and trhat there might not be school tomorrow. but there still is only like 2 cm of snow on the ground! I'm from Canada so I am used to having school never close, does anyone elses school freak out and close when it snows?

if we get like 8+ inches we do, like if it starts snowing late at night into the next day our school is usually closed. the prime time is if it starts and 1 in the morning and snows on through

When I was in high school it had to be absolutely brutal conditions for school to close.  Our school district was notorious for keeping school open even when all the others were closed.

I live in Northwest Michigan, and it generally has to be pretty bad for school to get canceled, we've had 1 snow day so far. Peoples attitudes and reaction towards snowfall usually varies in different areas. Its funny though, that on the first actual snowfall of the year, everybody automatically assumes a snow day.

In Oregon our schools closed when there was less than 1inch of snow.
Usually takes 2inches to close schools. Or some Ice.

we also missed 4 days before christmas and 11 days in november but that was heavy snow about 3 or 4 feet

in CO (at least in vail) it has to be absolutely brutal, like 1+ feet of snow, 40+ mph winds, highways closed, etc. we've had 2 snow days in the past 30 years

My school never closes, only if it's 6+ inches, and since this is CT that doesn't happen much

back home (near boston) it would take at least 6 inches overnight to cancel school. At my university its probably closer to around 4 inches overnight.

I had a similar experience a few weeks ago in london. Less than 3 inches of snow, yet schools closed for 2-3 days, the trains and buses were all off schedule for almost a week. Unbelievable.

My high school only closed with around 8 inches of snow if they couldn't manage it through the night. the city that i go to college in, closed down for 2 weeks due to a storm that only dumped like a foot. That was 3 years ago maybe

2cm and school is shut down.

1. becasue nobody knows how to drive in snow in seattle and 2. because there are lots of hills, so if it gets bad, no one can get home

it just means more ski days!

man, back when i lived in mississauga they would cancel buses if there was like 2 cm on the ground it was fucked. from what i can remember from living in mtl as a kid and ever since i moved back here school has never been cancelled because of snow. the snow removal is fuckin serious down here

in the uk we had about 15cm where i live and we had 2 days off and no-one went to work either due to the roads being unusable haha.. i expect il have a few more snow days as well this season!

My schools poor (can you believe that i live in glastonbury Ct, Known to be a rich town) so they cant afford to pay the bus drivers for a delay (somehow it cost most) so anytime there is more than 3 inches were outta school. But at the same time we will have snow when theres ice all over the roads. We had 7 accidents last year on times when we should have had a delay

theres no snow on the roads anymore but people still will not move faster than 15 mph, DC drivers cant drive in rain so i guess snows even worse. oh well, just hit my b yard setup

5 snow days for me in the last 2 weeks

thats gotta be some sort of record for my school, they are calling the buses when there is literally nothing wrong with the roads. its retarded because now i am really behind in my work and i have to write a math test tomorrow because the buses were cancelled today again. but i got to go ski so that was nice.

It basically has to be a fucking all out blizzard death storm for my district to close. I live in MN. Like probably maybe 1-2 feet with no visibility, the schools would close two hours early.


I think they only close when they physically cant get kids to school. Whenever its less than -35˚ F is when they close.

Around here school will never close unless we get like 40+ cm. They'll usually cancel transportation if there's freezing rain tho.

At my high school in Durango, Colorado it takes at least 1 to 2 feet for schools to close.  Last year we had two snowdays by this time.  This year we dont have shit for snow.

I think at my high school (green bay, wisconsin) we had as many "cold days" as snow days, where there was a frostbite warning and it would be dangerous for kids to wait for the bus. They are really good at getting snow off the roads there, so if you want a snow day it has to be a big enough storm that starts at the perfect time of night and continues through at least 11 am.

we never have snow days. We had one but it was because it snowed like six feet and shit was crazy. They were still thinking about having school too haha. My school are jews when it comes to snow days

Holy shit that's cold.

It's usually only an inch or so in Seattle. People here can't drive in the snow for their lives, and will abandon their cars on I-5, the biggest highway in the country because half an inch.

Over Thanksgiving, I saw a Jeep, yes that's right, a JEEP trying to put on chains in an intersection that was clogged with horrible drivers.

I have only ever had one snow day because of snow, usually just because of ice, but whenever it snows and we don't get the day off everyone bitches about it for days, even if its only a few cm.

it snowed in delaware too, like 1/4 or 1/2 on the ground right now. It didn't snow at my house in NJ though, or at mountain creek for that matter. is the south gonna steal all our snow again this year?

My school district has never closed because of snow/cold. It closes if it's below -40 degrees, but that's never happened while i've gone. Once it got -38 degrees and they still didn't close.

happens where i live. But then again i live in central jersey and once it starts flurrying people freak out and cant drive. It flurried tonight on my way home and the whole fire department was on standby and plow trucks were out. shits ridiculous

I live in Juneau, Alaska and it takes up to 2-3ft of constant snow to have a snow day. It has to snow for like 24-36 hours strait.

the one reason i hate living in utah is we have not once in my entire life of living here had a snow day, even if we get 2 feet overnight! when i was elementary school our car almost got snowed in at the bus stop and we still had school. such horseshit
