I am an accomplished racer, slalom and GS, went to state in high school, blah blah blah. All you guys that say racing is gay, lets go stand up top a big line and ski it. What? You think are an awsome skier like in the movies but what's wrong? Why arent you ripping this line and launching 3s and backs off the drops? Oh yeah, that's right, you are good at the trampoline and b-lining into a jump and hucking yourself into the air and landing on your feet, well...thats good too. Here, let me point you to the blue square run that avoids this little line. I'm gonna drop in now and ski it using SKILLS attained through years of training, then go to the park and throw the same tricks you are throwing. Remember, PIZZA! make the pizza! French Fries! Always make turns when going downhill, check uphill before you traverse and always stay in control. That's alright little buddy, I'll help you out, just as soon as I ski this line that scared the shit out of you.

you do know that ripping a powder line and edging through gates have very little in common. just because you raced for a couple years doesn't mean that you're better in the backcountry than someone who has been on the mountain doing regular skiing and park skiing.

whats wrong with a racer who has respcet for every one.. and tires his hardets and just is lookgin to have fun hunh?? what the hel is wron wit that. i race. im done for right now. but i enjoy it. i have huhge respect for the skiers that are incredable in the park.. i know that there are alot of much much better guys in the park gates and bc, then me. i ski to have fun. we dont need to divide skiers upp.. only assholes..... and it seems that there are more assholes in the park...... i was up at hood. watchign the 'hoodratz' (which iam no part of) tear it up on a box. and so two racers come up both rding twins and they do the box. fine... dont say anything at all. jut to eachother. like yeah. goodjob. cool. this posse..(hoodratz) hey races. getyour fag asses out of the parkk....... really i have respect for thoose guys skiing abut not for there attitudes..

i believe most people involved with the 'newschool movement' are frustrated by racers because it is basically the sterotype of our sport, that makes it 'un-cool' or gay, i think the spandex didnt help with the name its goten either
really im not sure if racing needs to make a better name for itself or not, or just do its thing, its justs that its what most of us are trying to get away from

I am a newschool skier. I am a racer. I wear burton pants and an Arcteryx jacket when I ski. I wear Spyder pants over a fruity downhill suit when I ski. I have been skiing for fourteen years, I have skied in race courses for five years, and I have skied in parks for three. I ski in race courses because I like to go fast and turn, It's fun, and I like the challenge of improving my skiing. I ski in parks because I like to get air and slide rails, It's fun, and I like the challenge of inproving my skiing. I am not proud of every racer, because some of us are closed-minded assholes. I am not proud of every newschooler, because some of us are closed-minded assholes. I like to ski. What is to prevent me from doing all of these things? nothing. You might say that racers are assholes because one of them carelessly cut your little brother off on an in-run and made him eat shit on a jump, but a racer might hate newschoolers because one carelessly cut his little brother off in a slolom course and made him eat shit. The only reason that the first viewpoint is more popular to newschoolers is because the first one has an affect on them.
I am not saying that racers are better than newschoolers, I am not saying that newschoolers are better than newschoolers. Rather, I say we should hate the assholes. Any person who likes skiing enough to want to dedicate their winter to it is fine in my book.... as long as they're not an asshole.

I do not like what people who restrict themselves to skiing only one way. I think that a park rat is just as dangerous to skiing as a stick chaser, because once skiing gets too specialized to one part of the mountain, it sucks. Skiing is a great sport, with lots of great different ways to participate. If rails aren't your thing, you can still ski big mountain and backcountry stuff, ski moguls, race, whatever! If racing isn't your thing, then you can ski park, big mountain stuff, powder, whatever! Just ski, and love skiers! Love the snowboarders too! Hate the assholes!!!!

thanks, but I don't mean to rant... this is just a subject that affects me a lot. I don't want skiing to be a purely racing oriented sport, that's what happened in the sixties/seventies, and that's why snowboarding started and that's why skiing nearly died in the eighties, and that's why we are struggling to establish ourselves as a legitimate sport again. On the other end of the spectrum, I don't want skiing to become a completely park oriented sport, that's what snowblading is for... and I don't want to snowblade. Whatever we can do to keep skiing away from these (or any other) extremes is fine with me.

Wow, hey Midwest, you sound angry. Did a little jibber just make fun of you or something? Yeah there are kids who never leave the park and can't ski, but for the most part, I'm sure the majority of the kids on this sight are like me, and ski park once the mountain is tracked out. Most of the time I'm skiing lines with my friends.
And another thing, where are you finding 'big mountain' in the midwest. Come to Squaw and challenge some 'park rat' to ski a line with you and you will understand the depth of talent alot of west coast skiers have these days. Alot of kids are more tallented than you think.

whoa whoa, ok then nevermind. I don't understand why everyone got so damn upset. Would you prefer if I didn't state my opinions and instead answered and asked with 'fucking faggot' or something? I've got nothing but respect for almost all skiers and I don't judge anyone unless I know them, or at least I try not to. This is just a subject that hits home with me because for yrs I tried to juggle being a racer and jibber. All the racers on my team respected the jumpers and were always in awe of the tricks they could do but the jumpers always bitched and down talked the racers when they would head to the park. Also, Bristolrider don't tell me to get off this site when I've been on here a fucking lot longer than you have.
