Good places to ski out east?

Me and some buddies want to take a road trip out east to ski during winter break (around December 17th) so, NS, here is my question to you:

What are some good places to go skiing in the east? Preferably no more than about 8 hours away from the Cincinnati area. We don't want to drive too far so Sunday River and Stratton and anywhere near there is out. Obviously good park is important, but we won't spend all our time in the park, so other stuff is important too.

Well Sunday River and Straton are in two difrent states and are not very close haha. But i would recomend Mount Snow, they have good terrain and then they have Carinthia which is a full face terrain park that is connected to the main mountain. IMO Carinthia is the sickest in the East for park.

well id say any of the big mountains in vermont like killington, stratton and stowe, not sure about the drive from cinncinati. Also sunday rivers pretty good too.

Well if Stratton is too far then your are limiting yourself to NY mountains (stratton being southern VT). Hunter is a pretty good mountain, windham is alright, there might be some near syracuse that i dont know about that might be even closer to you, not sure. But you should really drive the extra 2-3 hours and hit up some VT mountains. dont worry bout going to NH or ME this trip but if you are making it east you should definitely think about Killingotn, Stowe, Snow, Loaf, Smuggs, Mad Riv, Magic is epic on a pow day and obviously JAY PEAK.

This. If you're set on only driving 8 hours you can't get into the VT mountains (all of which are about 12 hours from Cinci).

for a shorter drive Big Boulder in PA has a sick park. And usually 7 springs does as well. not as good as mount snow if you can get there though.

Might try mount snow... I've always liked the look of their park. Still have to figure out how far of a drive it will be though

Where are you coming from? I'm sure most west coast mountains are way better than most east coast places (overall). for a drive more than 8 hours, I don't think it's gonna be worth it. Especaily early in the season

Definately if you want to ski the east you need to go to the loaf. they have everything from park to pow. there preparation for early season is good to they have a lot of snow making and there in progress of expanding the mountain for more tree skiing which is gonna be dope. They have already finished phase 1 of 3 and the process is going to take around 2 years. If theres enough snow and that new side is open it will definately be worth the drive man

7. SPRINGS.  honestly.  ask anyone who rides there regularly, the parks are incredible.  also, if you look around, you can find a ton of little fun lines.

Rite now Snow Shoe is having a deal where if you book a 5 day trip there you get a free season pass. I live about 3 hrs north of you in mansfield and im looking at going on a trip around the same time as you. Oh and lift passes at snow shoe are also good at its neighbooring ski resort silver creek. 7 Springs is 60 miles from pittsburgh which is prolly like a 4 or 5 hr drive and there suppose to have #1 rated terrain park on the east. But you also have Indiana and Michgan that are close and im sure they have a few good places to ski.

if you wanted to make a little extra effort Mad river glen will blow your mind! no park but incredible tree skiing and usually tons of natural snow

yup very true, they got everything from a little park/jib line with a tow rope that you can just loop= super fun. or if there is good snow, a bunch of fun tree lines and random spots you would not expect to find in PA. plus the whole vibe of springs in general is amazing.

So pretty much everyone would say if I'm willing to drive 7-8 hours just go ahead and make the 14 hour drive to VT?

We were thinking snowshoe (7 hours) but if I'm going to do that just go ahead and go to VT?

GO TO SUNDAY RIVER IF YOU WANT TO SKI WITH COMPLETE YUPPIES/GAPERS GO TO LOAF IF YOU WANT TO BATTLE OFF INCREDIBLY RICH YUPPIES BUT SKI A PRETTY DECE PARK AND SOME REAL NICE NON-PARK SKIING. BRACKETT BASIN WILL CLEAR EVERYONE OFF OF THE SOME OF THE GOOD STUFF. HORAY.

Loon mountain is around 16 hours. I asked my parents about Mt Snow (which is 14 hours) and they weren't so sure about that distance.

Does anyone know if theres anything good up in Michigan?

AS far as i know there are some great places for powder but i cant think of any outstanding parks.

if you are roading triiping things you need to bring is a go pro for sure.

Well if your planning on heading a little south, you might want to try out Appalachian. They have a pretty nice park. That's probably more than 8 hours though.

Come to Canada and ride Le Massif such a sick hill something like 640cm average snowfall a year. Last year they got 500cm and that was bad year... You won't find much park here, but the tree skiing is amazing and they have a huge backcountry area. Mont saint anne is 50 minutes away and has a dirty park so many good rails, but no jumps.

Canada is out guys. None of us except for me has a passport.

Does anyone have anything good to say about Okemo? It has the most vertical for how close it is to Cincinnati.

Killington is about a half hour north of Okemo and well worth the drive. Okemo is ok but it's flat as fuck.

okemo is terrible it is allways packed and there are som many beginners. go to killington its like 30 miniutes away.

These unless your looking for strictly park. If your gonna drive from ohio to VT you might as well go further up in VT, what's another hour or two when you're already driving 12. IMO
