There was a thread from back in October about this but now that it's actually out I'm making another. Who's gonna see this movie? It's a great story and James Franco is one of my favorite actors. Plus Danny Boyle is a genius of a director. Here's the trailer:

i'm gonna get a ton of shit for this, but aron ralston is retarded. he lives in vail, my mom knows him, i've met him a few times. the thing i'll give him is that cutting your own arm off takes balls. very balsy and courageous. but going off on a solo adventure in southern utah without telling ANYONE where you're headed and for how long you'll be gone? that's a recipe for disaster no matter where you're going.

He also failed to notify anyone about where he was going or what he was doing. I'm pretty sure thats the most important thing in outdoor recreation.

i dunno, i mean i make sure to tell someone where im going, but i can understand people who dont. theres something about going out and being 100% on your own. and your just not 100% on your own when people know where you are. i guess i just respect people who just arent concerned for their own safety. everythings so fucking safe these days.

but anyway, the movie was awesome, super intense, and the last like 10-15 minutes were amazing. one of the best movies ive seen in a long time.

stupid little kids. Ever done anything without telling you parents? Like walk to the corner store? I just saw this movie, and yes, he doesn't tell anyone where he is going, and realizes he should of. However, this movie is about someone who decides they don't want to die, so he cuts off his arm. The first thing he does is break the bones in his arm separately, he then tries picks at his flesh with the dull knife he got with a cheap flashlight, and it works. He hits a string of nerves which he pulls out of the shattered bones, and then proceeds to sever his arm. That is one of the most badass things I have ever witnessed.

Such a bunch of self righteous little douche bags.

you tell people when you're doing this kind of shit, period, or you know what could happen, you could get your arm caught under a damn boulder. why is he even messing with some knife he got with a flashlight anyway, he's obviously quite the outdoorsmen, what with the state of the art equipment and exceptional trip planning capabilities.

i saw this movie after thanksgiving dinner. to all you who are saying that he should have told someone what he was doing, he spends a lot of time thinking over why he didn't and tells himself that he's cocky and can "do everything on his own". the movie was really powerful in the sense that there is nothing stronger than the will to live.

Well he wouldn't have had to look death in the eyes and eventually evade it by sawing his arm off IF he told people where he was going, what he is doing there and when he is expecting to be back. Its rather simple outdoor recreation trip planning, if you will.

We get that. It's been said in maybe 15 times. As stupid as it was, this movie is not about whether he should've told someone where he was going. He should've no doubt, and I'm sure he realized that as soon as he got stuck. But the man cut off his arm to save his own life, as stupid of a mistake as he made, that is pretty insane.


Just my $0.02. I'm not disagreeing with anyone saying what he did was stupid.

I can't imagine the pain. Having your arm pinned up against a rock while the boulder is crushing your arm AND sawing your arm off. Sends shivers down my spine when I think about it.

I'm not 100% sure. The initial crushing would hurt like hell, but I'm pretty sure the boulder would cut off circulation making your arm numb?

Oh yeah. Totally forgot about the circulation part. But I bet it was just fucking excruciating when circulation came back. But I'm sure he was in some sort of medical care place all drugged up on morphine and other painkiller drugs.

its extremely detailed. if you don't want to see that part (suggestion: bring a girl and do other things during it) it only lasts like 45 secs. but yes its very graphic.

he uses leverage and snaps the bone.. then the graphic part begins. (i was not fully focused during the scene) he stabs the knife in to his arm.. there is like an interior view of the arm. then he saws away all the flesh and tendon the kinfe can cut. and plucks his nerve with the knife. then he cuts the remaining tendon with pliers and all of a sudden he flies back.. at which point i stated watching again

ouch.    also i wonder if he ever went back to retrieve his arm. I really dont think i could do that.  i would give up after breaking my arm. crazy shit man also if that was me trapped i would have like my tactical knife and it would be hella sharp it might be a little easier.
